Transfer fees 15:57 - Aug 21 with 5432 viewsWickets

Looking as though we are going to have to dig deep to land the quality we are seeking . How much do posters feel we will be willing to fork out ? those in the know and others like me please speculate . Maybe just as a bit of fun as we can afford to enjoy life as we are TOP of the league .

It is utter bobbins.

For us to be losing £1 million a week our squad would all have to be on £40,000 a week each, and that is if TV money, tickets, sponsorship and other revenue only covered non-Playing staff costs.

We were led to believe that Evans was facing up to a £15 million loss a season in the Championship, with lower crowds and less tv money etc.

£1 million a week losses is absolute nonsense.

He said £1m a month which has been correct for the last 2 seasons

Just reading this morning that Brighton have put a price of £100,000,000 on Even Ferguson. Even half that would be bonkers.

Where did you find that the club is currently losing £1 million a month? I can't recall reading that or anything that might lead me to conclude that.

We lost £12.6m in the last published accounts

I have it on good authority from a poster on here that we will be smashing our transfer record multiple times this window so that is what i am expecting. Still waiting for the first one mind you, but I have read there will be multiple

Oops!

That is consistent with the MEG losses, so would be likely.

Yes that chorizo guy said it. l believe he said there would be 3 massive signings with at least one breaking our transfer record, he seemed to think he was 100% on that info too. Like you l am still waiting :).

Whilst I don't think it's per week. You'd imagine it's definitely a monthly loss around that or higher. Promotion bonuses, transfer installments. Staff wages ( we've recruited incredibly high the last year.

That's not to say we haven't increased our turnover too though with things.. but as we know from the M.E era. You lose a sht load of money In the champ.

a niche perspective

Though those will be historical. Does anyone know whether we are currently trading in profit or not? I know we have increased wages in the Championship plus recently incurred transfer fees that will have to be paid, however I would have thought that other recurring expenses would have remained broadly the same. Against that, someone mentioned the increased TV revenue plus, of course, gate receipts and, probably, income from sponsorships will have increased. Are we still losing the equivalent of £1 million a month?

Those were the accounts from 2021/22, since which we have signed Davis, Harness, Broadhead, Clarke, Taylor and Hirst, amongst others, with little moving the needle the other way. The wage bill will no doubt have increased substantially before you factor in promotion bonuses and payrises, and other areas of the club have continued to receive investment

Income will have gone up by virtue of being in the Championship plus the increased attendances (although it was c22k for the last published year so not as large jump as some may think), but it would be a surprise if the amount that is being loss has changed much, and the next accounts will almost certainly have a much larger loss given last years transfers against a League One income

The 'cruncher' said on their channel, after speaking to the US finance guy that we werent going to be messing about.

Trouble is you can have big plans but come unstuck when other clubs have a pot of money too.

Im not too bothered if we dont go crazy this window. The value of championship players seems to have gone a touch crazy.

We may have to wait. We may need to consider overseas more too.

Given that the key issue in terms of spending seems to be conforming with FFP rather than actual cashflow, I imagine eventually we'll settle into having running costs that are approximately our revenue + £13m (ie. somewhere between £33-38m per year) and aim to be more or less net neutral on player trading costs.

(assuming nothing crazy like promotion happens!)

Yep that sounds about right - but does reinforce the point that losses will be £1m per month (slightly higher in fact)

Obviously that assumes a stay in the Championship - promotion would completely shift the landscape, as you say!

Think you're probably looking at that kind of loss as the standard cost of being "in the pack" in the Championship.

Between 4/5 parachute teams and probably at least another half dozen clubs maxxing out FFP (and some of them even more reckless than that!), if you don't you're probably already bottom half on budget.
