The boy Ladapo 17:42 - Sep 3 with 2568 views | _clive_baker_ | Did really well yesterday I thought. Aside from the goals, held the ball up well which can’t always be said, pressed from the front. Bloody good hour of football from the man. Well played.
The boy Ladapo on 18:20 - Sep 3 with 2436 views | Herbivore | We all know McKenna is a smart cookie, but bringing Ladapo on ahead of the other options was a master stroke. Jackson was excellent up front against Leeds but Leeds play out from the back and leave a lot of space, which requires someone who will press all day and exploit space in the transitions. Cardiff played much deeper and were more direct, and Freddie's ability with his back to goal and his quality in and around the box were much more suited. Shows that he's always thinking about what will work best against which opponent rather than having a one size fits all approach. He also really gets the psychology of the game, when Hirst first came in, Ladapo kicked on to another level with his goalscoring and all round play. You can bet with Scarlett joining and Jackson starting last week that Ladapo would have been bang up for it coming on yesterday.

The boy Ladapo on 19:15 - Sep 3 with 2303 views | ibbleobble | He was a handful from the moment he came on. He’s always had movement in the box but I though the way he shifted his weight and the deftness of touches were an improvement on last season. Another day he’d have bagged a hat-trick.

Yup. McKenna improving even the older, seasoned pros. I too thought his movement in the box was excellent yesterday, and his strength on the ball is ahead of our other options. Perfect game for Freddie, and there'll be others too where I'd play him ahead of Hirst. Similarly there will be games when Jackson is the right starting option. Hirst will be the most frequent right starting option mind you, and that's before we even consider Scarlett at 9. We're well-stocked with different types of quality, and the ability to change within games. [Post edited 3 Sep 2023 21:10]

But that’s not where his qualities lie, others will disagree but I think he’s a very good finisher (perhaps a bit of a confidence player in that regard). His hold up play is very good and he’s SO strong. Great at shielding the ball then turning the defender. With the pace and movement of Jackson to call on as well, it’s great to have such varied options up front. That said I do hope Hirst isn’t out for long, he gives us the threat in the air, and his work is so integral to the way we play.

He's not slow, he's just got quite a languid running style. He gets quite a few goals running in behind, which is hard to do if you can't run quickly.

Totally agree on the running style. I think he's a bit slower than Hirst but nowhere near as much as some seem to think. Would love to see the data the sports science guys have on it.

A lot of what McKenna does is about attributes, Jackson said it a while back - he [McK] concentrates on what I can do rather than what I can't - and that shows with the use of Jackson against Stoke and Leeds and Ladapo yesterday as you say. It's also why Harness has come on in some matches this season despite a lot of fans writing him off. Freddie was really good on Saturday, used the ball well and caused their defenders problems. Nice contrast in the goals too, one beautifully delicate finish and one off the face after really good movement.

The boy Ladapo on 09:13 - Sep 4 with 1453 views | BlueDouglas | I thought he was good, not great. Did really well for the first goal, put himself in the right place for the 2nd. He's pretty lethal in the box and can sense where the ball is going to be. I thought Hladky deserved MOTM. What Ladapo seems to struggle with imo is running at defenders with the ball at his feet, & receiving the ball with his back to goal, a very different type of player compared to Hirst. Seems to be very marmite with Town fans!

Just after he came on on Saturday, he took that ball from Morsy back to goal in a really tight space on the edge of the box with one glorious touch and spun and hit it just wide. That was nothing short of superb, especially as he was barely up to the speed of the game. Had it just crept inside the post we'd have been creaming our tweeds about it for months!

Really good work from him just afterwards to set up Chaplin as well, who really should have scored. Top centre forward display from him.

Yeah that was lovely. The sort of chance you expect to see the net bulge from with Chappers' left foot on the end of it. Few other times as well where he just backed in to his defenders and looked after the ball well. He's sometimes been guilty of not doing that well enough, but he held it up really well Saturday and used it well to get bodies playing off him.

Yep, and honestly, as much as I like Hirst, I don’t think he’d have done either of those things. And I’m not sure he’d have found himself in the positions for the goals.

A nice bit of luck for Freddie as well with fact that on week when he could have left, and we signed someone presumably to play ahead of him that there is an early injury and the game is against a side with a low block that he is the more obvious choice to come on for fitness and tactical reasons. Obviously has to take that chance as well, which he certainly did but a nice stroke for him
