Can someone go on the Plymouth forum 08:47 - Oct 29 with 5638 viewsunstableblue

And post this on their forum

And also point out:

1. It was outside the box even if there was enough contact, so it wasn’t a penalty
2. There were two covering defenders so it was never a red card
3. What they should be focussing on is whether it was a yellow and a free-kick outside the box, that wouldn’t have allowed Town to carry on play and go and score as per their excellent manager’s view “ And then I’m obviously fuming over how we didn’t get a free-kick right on the edge of their box at a really pivotal moment in the game because what happened next was Ipswich went down the other end, got a corner and scored from it.”

Taking about a red card and penalties is a bit silly

Besides despite Plymouth being excellent, and a fine opponent, we had huge amounts of the ball, corners, and carved out many chances so just edged it. Our keeper’s excellent display should be the talking point! Which effectively won Town the game.

Have you ever seen a goal scored from a short corner? I genuinely can't remember one for town.

The only one I can remember from football was bale for spurs in one game years ago.

Short corners imo suck.

Short corners are the most effective from scoring from.

The biggest surprise when you consider how motivated fans get at a corner is how few lead to goals at all.

An average of 10 corners per game, and a 3% chance of scoring from a corner, gives around 26% chance of a goal being scored from a corner in a game (calculation is 1.0 - 0.97^10 as a percentage).

That's rather harsh. It is usually a yellow card only for diving.

On that basis, you would expect to see 1 in every 4 matches on average. Since there are two teams, any random team can expect to score roughly 1 in every 8 matches. Clearly some teams score more than others and some teams score from set pieces more often than others so those stats won't hold for every team.

Correct. Another perspective is: if a goal is scored every 30 minutes on average in a Championship game (I think that's approximately correct), the chance of scoring a goal in a 1 minute patch of play is also about 3% - so on the face of it not much difference between open play and corner. But in open play either team can score (1.5% for a given team), whereas with the corner, the team to whom it's awarded has the 3% chance. So twice the chance of the team scoring as in open play.

Rewatch the 100 goals from last season

EDIT: I decided to rewatch the video. Looks like we scored three last season (they cut the start off on the compilation video). The last one was against Forest Green (1m46).

But nowhere near as many as I thought we got. I think I was misremembering playing it (along the ground) to a player in the box. Chaplin got space like that a few times for example. Anyway... As a percentage of the amount we take short, compared to putting it in the box, I imagine we score less!
