That hockey incident 19:09 - Oct 30 with 8374 views | blueasfook | Keep seeing that video on X and its a shocker. I'm no hockey expert but it's looks intentional to me. He moved into the guy and stuck his leg out. Apparently the guy has a bit of a rep for being a dirty player. Nottinghamshire police are investigating it. Wouldn't be surprised to see a manslaughter charge.

While totally agreeing with you here, I have recently found your repeated posting on Israel/Gaza genuinely upsetting. From my perspective it has appeared too often to be nail banging point scoring (cos that's what matters Big man) so have found this post slightly ironic. Peace.

That hockey incident on 21:39 - Oct 30 by Kievthegreat | As someone who accidentally has seen footage when searching for updates hoping Adam Johnson would survive, the clips circulating now all cut out at the moment of impact and don't show the aftermath, so they are quite sterile (but still enormously disrespectful to the him and his family). The original clips showed the aftermath and it was genuinely one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. Lots of people were blocking and reporting videos as they started surfacing on twitter, but bots were just posting it incessantly. And that's before the MAGA right wing grifters got in on it. Now the internet is bombarded with calling Petgrave a murderer for what was a horrific accident. He already will need a lifetime of counselling, 10,000s of racists on twitter calling him a murderer won't help. |
Yes, my friend said Petgrave's reaction was one of absolute horror and the instant realisation of what he had done. It sounded absolutely dreadful to have been there, took ages for any response too.

That hockey incident on 01:06 - Oct 31 by tcblue | Hockey is my second love, I've not seen.the incident ,- on purpose - but I know nobody would try to do this purposefully. There have been other incidents of the like - I'm not aware of fatal ones - Clint Malarchuk being the one I remember most. Neck protection comes up periodically and there's really not a great solution been found, partially because the trade off between safety and comfort is huge, the more comfortable ones are little more than tight fitting snoods - probably not much use against a blade attached to a sixteen stone man travelling at speed. I do wonder - and again, I've purposefully not watched it - if some of the improvements could be in terms of the specialist medical training for first responders. That was what saved Chuck's life. |
I think there should definitely be questions asked around response as there should after any similar incident. The trainers/physics obviously jump on instantly and here several of trauma doctors and nurses from the crowd jumped in to help also. It's quite possible that there isn't really a solution for this that is practical to have in place at an arena/ice rink. Especially if we consider in lower tiers. We can't have dedicated doctors in for rec games. On the neck protection front, it depends on what you want to go with. Obviously something which is more substantial will probably be less comfortable, but even the sort of snood options can help. Even if they don't prevent the cut, they can make it less deep which could possibly make a difference between a severed artery or not. I'd think with some of the ones with Kevlar thread, etc... You can make something with enough resistance to offer a significant improvement without impeding the players excessively. Similar to Halos in F1, it's not able to stop small debris (thinking Felipe Massa injury), but can stop a tyre. However it is an easier fix than a full canopy. Would a partial improvement still be better than nothing?
That hockey incident on 08:36 - Oct 31 with 1836 views | CityBlue | what the videos dont show is the speed of initial impact between the two other players that caused him to flip his leg up so high and catch Johnson with the heel of his skate blade. Tragic accident - nothing more nothing less

The worst thing about social media is that everyone thinks they need to share their opinion and that their opinion has merit.

If I was posting or even viewing at home gory videos of dying individuals in gruesome close up and then having a better look in slow motion then you might have a point.

Mate your intentions are good but don't agree with posting images on here and links to the incident. Just my opinion but people may not be comfortable with seeing it/kids that might come on here etc.

To be clear, the thread doesn't contain any links to the incident at the weekend. There are IIRC 2 posts which do have a Trigger Warning on them of incident where the players made full recoveries. These are for the most part examples of near misses or thankfully minor injuries.
