This feels like the topic to get TWTD back on an even keel.

https://www.theguardian.com/food/2023/nov/01/from-compressed-yeast-to-cream-chee

So, in the considered opinion of this forum, what is the greatest sandwich?

I've got 2 in mind.

Roast beef, watercress, horseradish sauce.

Coronation Chicken and shredded lettuce.

Both on granary bread.

Not sure about the 'bummers custard' sandwich tbh....

Three and a half months ago I would have gone with your first recommendation.

But now I’m a yoghurt knitting vegetarian, I would say a Mature Cheddar and Branston Pickle Toastie.

I'm very partial to a club sandwich.

That tomato sandwich they list sounds rather good but I doubt I'd be able to get hold of decent enough tomatoes to pull it off.

You can have mine as raw tomatoes make me ill, but a club sandwhich is a fine import

Before I was vegan I'd have said egg mayo with either cress or rocket. I've managed to perfect a vegan alternative to egg mayo, thankfully, but it's a bit of a faff to make so I don't have it often.

I don't know about sandwich, but I had the best chicken burger I've had in my life the other day, at Other Side Fried in Brixton.

Honey Butter Burger - fried chicken, bacon, smoked honey butter, lettuce & pickles with cajun salt fries.

Indescribably incredible. If you think you know roughly what a chicken burger tastes like, then try one of these bad boys and have your mind surprised and tingled.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Steak sandwich has to be up there. Same as the fish finger version.

Dark rye and sunflower bread, toasted.
Real butter.
Smoked ham.
Spring onions, sliced.
Pickled cucumber, sliced.
Little gem lettuce.
Scotch bonnet chilli jam.
Hellmann's mayonnaise.
Ground black pepper.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I had a really tasty posh fish finger salad in honey and Harvey in Ipswich the other day. Highly recommended.

Chicken, Celery & Sweetcorn has to be right up there, on white of course - first experienced at Reids in Witham circa 1996.
Closely followed by their prawn mayo and avocado.

Urgh, hate celery. That's the one foodstuff I can't abide, unless it's buried deep in a stew or something.

Surely only a wrong un would put celery in a sandwich? Raw celery is, at best, pointless.

I quite like it as a snack... not sure I'd put it in a sandwich though.

If you've got some nice hummus kicking about I can see why you'd use it as a vessel for that, but on its own?

I'm not going to judge you, Dan. The taste is okay, it's the texture that puts me off eating it raw. Celery salt is a must in a Bloody Mary.

Pastrami, Swiss cheese, Gherkin, American Mustard on Rye has to be my all time favourite, but I would eat almost anything in Sandwich form.

A particular favourite is a Bolognese and mature cheddar toastie, thick white bread.

Adventures in Sandwiches on 09:43 - Nov 1 with 1683 viewsCoastalblue

This is one of those questions where the answer depends on the day and the mood.

Today, some good quality ham sliced thickly, with sliced tomatoes and sorry, but probably between thick sliced white with real butter.

Sometimes a simple combo just works well enough that to add anything else just detracts, a bit like a good quality cheese and onion sandwich, it just doesn't need any more if the ingredients are good.

Just to prove my sandwich credentials, I had a pickled onion monster munch sandwich made with warburtons toastie last week. Good, but just fell short of the pinnacle I was expecting.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Cream cheese, celery and walnuts is a good sarnie, apple optional.

Its mature cheddar and onion though ftw.
