She essentially doubled down on Twitter yesterday, pinning most of the blame on the march and continuing with her inflammatory rhetoric about those protesting against Israel's actions in Gaza, whilst barely mentioning the far-right thugs who were responsible for almost all of the violence in London on Saturday. She wanted to get sacked and she'll see this as her chance to pitch for the leadership when they lose the next GE but whilst she might be popular amongst the dyed in the wool Tory hardcore, she is not remotely popular with most of the electorate. It's the Tories talking to themselves and only giving a toss about themselves once again. Heaven forbid they should invest any effort in governing. |  |

It's no wonder the government is completely ineffective when they keep having to move the deckchairs on the Titanic. There is zero sense that any government minister understands their brief let alone being genuinely all over it because they keep having to move people around and nobody has the time to actually do anything of any use within their department. Last week she wrote a newspaper article criticising the police. The article was checked by No10 and some changes were requested which she ignored.
She essentially undermined her boss and ignored his request.

Trying to be unbiased here, essentially she criticised the Met by saying they were biased in favour of pro-Palestinian protestors in a very forceful way in one of the papers. Usually, articles have to be run by the PMs team and there'll be some back and forth with adjustments so that ministers aren't going rogue.
They asked her to tone down the article and she apparently did a little but then ignored some of the other adjustments and it got published anyway.
The only possible way she could have saved her skin was if there was a load of trouble at the march on Saturday but there wasn't, with most of the arrests coming from counter-protestors.
She then doubled down later on.
Whilst she probably had to go, this was really win-win for her. She said her piece and played to the whole "jst sayin' wot every1 else is thinkin" crowd and can now aim to be the leader after the next election. | |
