I like King Charles more than I liked Prince Charles. on 12:29 - Dec 4 by noggin | Lol, so why did you comment in the first place? |
It's my privilege to comment, just as it's yours. I don't agree with the poster in question, and it's likely that I never will. I'm not wasting my time answering silly questions, when it's patently obvious that the poster has not a clue on security issues. As far as King Charles in concerned, I stand by what i posted agreeing with Ryorry. Take it or leave it, I frankly don't care.

Travel aside, you haven’t addressed the many estates he runs, with all that entails. Nobody needs that many energy instensive properties or recreational vehicles (all his classic cars he has for fun, hunting vehicles etc). Nor that the Royal family successfully lobbied to be exempted from laws limiting carbon emissions. You mentioned you gave up flying, which is very noble but other than campaigning, what has he actually given up. The royal yacht was axed for cost rather than environmental reasons. His carbon footprint is estimated to be THIRTY EIGHT TIMES the average UK citizen. He can make a real difference, but the evidence suggests he’s unwilling to change his lifestyle.

Flicking through those articles, they seem to back the viewpoint that Charles is sometimes perceived as a "green King" without really doing much. Take the Country and Town House article, which lists the 6 Things King Charles Has Done For The Environment. 1) Launching The Sustainable Markets Initiative Seems to be some kind of CEOs club, where they can make environmental pledges. Some nice corporate virtue signalling akin to putting a black history month logo on your twitter, but no tangible benefits listed. 2) Creating An Organic Garden At Highgrove Selling a bit of organic veg to the upper middle classes in Waitrose is not really getting to the crux of climate change. Rich man's play thing when we need systematic improvements. 3) Reducing His Personal Carbon Footprint "and not just by turning down the heating in his swimming pool". What a trooper. 4) Being Patron Of The Campaign For Wool We are scraping the barrel here. 5) Rejecting £32 Million Windfall From Windfarm Profits "the Crown Estate announced earlier this year that it had secured a £1 billion deal to sell six licences for new wind energy projects off the UK coast". This is the one that makes me really angry. For some archaic reason, the crown owns the seabed. They "graciously" drip fed us a fraction of the profit they made. If the seabed was nationalised, we would have made a lot more, which could be invested into more green energy. 6) Launching The Coronation Food Project Not a bad thing, although more focused on tackling poverty than environmentalism. I'd argue Charles should and could do far more to tackle poverty.

I like King Charles more than I liked Prince Charles. on 11:14 - Dec 4 by Zapers | Read what Ryorry has written. What's your opinion on the many celebrities who you might idealise, that also travel by private jet? King Charles has done more for the environment than pretty much 99.999% of the remaining publc, including celebs. Very naive to think that he can fly commercial when carrying out his duties, representing our country. |
Classic how many people (not saying SKM’s one) tear into Charles but never mention their favourite footballers/teams/other ‘celebrities’ fast cars, jet lifestyles, mansions etc. Talk about selective & hypocritical.

To be fair, Chuck is not a celebrity. He's head of state of the 6th richest nation in the world. Imho, he should be slashing the budget of his extended family and tackling the massive wealth inequality amongst 'his people'.
