Weird refereeing in the City Spurs game 18:27 - Dec 3 with 3683 views | GlasgowBlue | Lat minute of injury time, Haaland is fouled near the half way line, ref waves play on for the advantage, ball is played to Grealish who is one on one with the keeper and the ref stops play for the foul on Haaland. Chaotic.

Weird refereeing in the City Spurs game on 18:40 - Dec 3 with 3587 views | Plums | I can only assume the ref got an incorrect 'he's off' call from the lino (who was behind play) and pulled it back for the advantage. At first viewing, I thought it was off but rewinding showed not. If the lino puts his flag up, then it's a Spurs free kick so the ref's protecting City's advantage. It's the only explanation I can think of. [Post edited 3 Dec 2023 18:41]

Yes I think the ref was trying to do the best for City Isn't it funny to be querying and complaining (Man City fans) about a ref decision and not VAR VAR has rightly been slated of lot.. but these Premier League matches are huge.. and without it you're relying on these guys, and perhaps we'd be having as many conversations about officiating decisions

It is. It's also worth noting that all of that happened in about 1.5 seconds (if that) so seeing it, making a decision and acting upon it and getting it correct 100% of the time is nigh on impossible.

Think you could well be right as in real time I thought it was offside .

Pause it on 5 seconds. He's about a metre and a half onside.

This is how crap the whole thing is... Suppose no foul on Haaland. who plays the ball through to Grealish, there should be no flag, as not an obvious offside so lino should wait to see how play develops as Grealish would have been one on one with the keeper - say Grealish scores, flag goes up, VAR checks, Grealish onside, goal given. But suppose the keeper saves, and the ball goes for a corner, flag goes up, offside given as VAR doesn't check. That should be the exact same scenario if the ref thinks Haaland was fouled but is playing advantage - the flag should stay down and the lino should say nothing and not flag until that play is resolved, either by a goal or pen (which VAR will check) or a corner (which VAR will not check). In either case the ref doesn't come back for the foul as the advantage was used up... There was a situation in the first half where a Spurs player was clearly offside but the lino didn't put the flag up until the play had developed to a goak kick for Man City, by which time it was almost pointless... Weird refereeing in the City Spurs game on 19:56 - Dec 3 with 3192 views | Garv | Very odd but in a way not surprisingly. Referees have struggled with playing the advantage for as long as I can remember, they're too eager to give fouls - probably because the crowd and players scream for it immediately. So you could easily argue it's their fault not the officials. Fair play to Haaland for getting up and not playing for a card. In my opinion it wouldn't have mattered. Grealish was a long way from goal and he's not exactly lightening, Spurs had defenders coming back too. Can understand why City are annoyed with though.

Be seeing him ref a championship match next week then, I thought the lino Keeps the flag down now, plays on and if It’s questionable off side then check with VAR.. that’s a howler From the ref.

I’m hoping by the time they’ve been disciplined I’ll be playing against them in my walking football league.
