Freddie Ladapo 10:36 - Dec 13 with 1531 viewsChampionsofInnsbruck

Although it was Morsy who scored, in the build up Ladapo helped put the work in to help make that goal happen. He's a player I feel gets a lot of unfair flack and while he's not starting over Hirst anytime soon, when he does come on, he contributes and battles hard for the team at a crucial time in the game.

He's won us games this season and his role in the squad shouldn't be under stated. He might want to go elsewhere to get more game time, but if not for me he is more than welcome to stay here.

Disagree. I love freddie and I wanted him here when we were league 1. But he's miles of the efforts of hirst.
He's just a different player and you I didn't feel he did anything of note last night. I get your appreciation and yes he was in his position for the goal but that's just standard play.

We just don't have another hirst so unfortunately who ever comes on doesn't fit well imo and we lose a massive aspect of our game imo.

No.1 priority even tho it'll be difficult is getting another hirst in Jan.

I like Freddie. Always been a supporter of his and the role he's played since he arrived.

However thought he had a bit of a shocker last night. Can only remember one occasion where he retained the ball, and won a crucial free kick in the process. I'm open to the notion that I may have seen it incorrectly (EADT praised him in the ratings).

I do think we need an upgrade on him in January though.

I agree with you on this and disagree with the OP. The ball wasn't sticking with Freddie (and rarely) does... and it's very generous to say he had much involvement in the goal.

He tries hard and is a battler but I'm afraid the team has moved on from his level.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Can't agree to be honest with you. Did a great job for us last season but he's not in the same league as Hirst and it's a bit of a problem area for us I think. We're very reliant on Hirst staying fit, and even then with the shift he puts in as a lone front man you wont get 90+ minutes at that level Saturday - Tuesday.

Ladapo doesn't read a game anywhere near as well as Hirst does, nor does he have his movement or footballing brain which is more important in our system than were he in a front 2 and chasing balls dropped over the fullbacks head into a channel. One occasion last night, Burns presses perfectly, forces their left back with 1 out ball to their keeper. Ladapo stands there, doesn't anticipate it at all and lets him use it. 20 minutes earlier if that's Hirst he's cutting off that ball and forcing them to probably surrender possession.

Not being overly critical of Freddie, he is what he is, but he isn't in the same league and I can't help but feel we've outgrown him. It'll happen, it's already happened to others and he's probably at that point now I would think. He might stick around beyond January but I would love to see us invest in that area to give us a push for the final 20 games. Priority #1 in January IMO.

Yes, it was very clear last night. Freddie has developed loads since he has been here, and looks a much better player for it, but I think he's reached his ceiling.

Thanks for the goals and playing a big part in last season's promotion but getting a striker in who can take the pressure of Hirst, and play int he way he does, is critical to maintaining our challenge this season.

Was noticeable as well that Morsy took the shot on himself rather than lay it square and trust Freddie given he had had a bit of stinker since he came on.

As you say, priority is signing decent backup for Hirst in Jan.

Freddie is a GREAT League One striker. Perfect for that level. Unfortunately his game doesn’t have the skill sets, pace, to deal with the higher level. This is why Rotherham got rid of him when they went up. Would be surprised to see him leave this window ( I’m assuming we’ll have a replacement coming in), but if not in January, I’d think definitely in the summer, and especially if we do get promoted. But Freddie is an honest solid professional. So I’ll wish him well when does depart.

The more I see of Freddie... the more I feel his time is up. Can't make the ball stick and in 20 minutes at the end of a game I want him to bully a tired defence as well as be a goal threat. An obvious player to be upgraded. And I'd wish him well like many others.

He does give his all, even if it sometimes appears he's not... but it is unfortunate that so often his second touch is a tackle.
Definitely one to be upgraded.

Unfortunately he's a huge drop-off in quality from Hirst and whilst he tries it was clear again last night that this is the case.

Hirst is now looking like a 5m+ striker, he's moving up the scoring charts and is high in the assist charts. Going to be hard to find someone affordable who doesn't offer a large drop-off in the window.
