Turns out he just hates women in general rather than them commentating on men's games.

I'm going to put my head above the parapet here. I know it's called "sports personality", but it's always been recognised as an award to the sportsperson who achieved the most during the year. Of the nominees, I think the award should have gone to Katarina Johnson-Thompson - she couldn't have achieved much more during 2023 (and what a fantastic story of triumph over adversity).

I can remember when Gascoigne won it in 1990. His achievement that year was to cry as his team lost in the world cup semi-final. Stephen Hendry was the runner-up, having won pretty much every event that he entered that year.

I think 1990 was the first time the award went to a public vote. Prior to that, the award had been decided by sportspeople. Had that continued, I think Katarina Johnson-Thompson would have won last night.

Btw - not that it needs saying, but Joey Barton is, once again, behaving like a tw@t.

Sports “Personality”. I don’t think Stephen Hendry smiled once in the whole time he played, a grimace maybe. Gascogne inspired a nation.

Would love to see how Earps faired against Barton at penalties. At 5’8” she’d have her work cut out but law of averages alone would suggest Barton’s claim is nonsense let alone the fact it is.

As always, seems very little nuance allowed in this conversation. For me;

1) Barton is a sexist pig who seems to have channeled his inner Andrew Tate

2) There would appear to have been far more deserving characters for winning SPOTY this year - who have actually won a sporting competition this year.

Both things can be true

He should just ask his agent to approach I’m

All seems to have gone quite bizarre - he recently tweeted that Jeremy Vine was a "bike nonce" and then followed up with a pic of JV and commented that "If you see this bloke outside a primary school to call 999"

Now he is getting sued for libel and JB has a gofundme for his legal defense costs. Suspect he'll soon be going down the route of Lawrence Fox and settling this long before it gets to court - or he'll face some rather large legal bills.

Lawyers must love social media and the fact that some people haven't worked out that libel laws apply there just as they do to any other published comments.

The fact that randomers are donating to him is hilarious.

I'm not sure the point of the thread is about liking womens football or not. That's been done to death here before. Some like it. Some don't. No right or wrong.
The thread is about Barton acting like a complete bellend.
Any views on that and his general mysogonistic views?

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

All sport is subjective - I like some sport and not others, whoever is playing. Just enjoy it on its own terms. Barton on the other hand is bitter that he's unemployed and like many is blaming his plight on others, rather than the fact he's an unpleasant, talentless, charisma free, no mark gobshyte

Some random football group popped up on my Facebook feed with that very tweet. I was surprised that a few fellas decided to repeat what Barton said, adding in their own opinions on Vine.

Some people obviously want to get sued.
