Striker for Saturday 15:54 - Jan 8 with 5172 views | bluesbrothers | Feeling a bit flat as was sure we’d get someone in first week of Jan. We really can’t afford to go in to the game Saturday without someone in place. Anyone know when Stansfields recall window is?

Striker for Saturday on 15:56 - Jan 8 by Kieran_Knows | I imagine it will be Broadhead or Jackson through the middle. I think it'll be latter part of the window before we see a striker through the door. |
sorry but I did chuckle as the thought of something coming through the door during the window

I hope Broadhead has a much happier return than Davis did to his former club. I am sure they will give him a good reception. He has been getting into some really good positions whilst only taking a small percentage of chances. Saturday would be a great time for him to put several away.

Striker for Saturday on 16:10 - Jan 8 by ReusersTown | I think the counter to that would be that neither Jackson nor Ladapo allow us to play the way we usually play. |
True but i dont think we have a striker at the club can let us play as we usually do . So Jackson for me as we cant fault his effort . [Post edited 8 Jan 2024 17:27]

Striker for Saturday on 17:17 - Jan 8 by ReusersTown | I'd definitely agree with that but would also say that it's evident that we've been comparatively toothless in the last two games, so would definitely role the dice, if we had dice to roll. |
Definitely less relentless and clinical, against QPR though we missed three good chances (Ladapo's two one on ones and Harness from 6 yards) and Stoke we were on top but unusually wasteful in the final third. I don't think I'd throw any new signing straight in for Saturday, personally, not from the start. It's asking a lot for them to be instantly up to speed with how we play.

Striker for Saturday on 16:35 - Jan 8 by SomethingBlue | Could be very wrong but I think the chase for a serious Hirst replacement will go to the wire and there are no guarantees. It's an absolute dogfight for strikers at the moment, not just here but around Europe, and most sellers will hold onto their cards for as long as possible. We have been very good in the transfer market for 18 months now but even by recent standards I'll be hugely impressed if we can get a player of the required level. Aware this is not the most positive take! Jackson to start for me, though – we know how to make it work well-ish with him up there even though it's far from perfect. [Post edited 8 Jan 2024 16:36]

Fear you're right. Think we're paying the price a bit for not doing all the business we wanted to in the summer re: strikers. I know some people don't like to hear it but we clearly wanted another of similar quality to Hirst and didn't manage to get that deal done. Sure we've put the necessary feelers out and are ready to pounce when the right domino falls but as you say that may be a while and I can't see us signing someone for the sake of it in the meantime. Even someone like, for example, Divin Mubama at West Ham who is probably available if he doesn't sign a new deal there is a tricky one - is more of a 'project' and would be a huge ask to come in and fill Hirst's shoes, but a striker or 2 will have to come in there before they think about giving the green light to his departure. Unfortunate timing really that we've got such awkward games at a time we're without a few key players and can't just muddle through in the immediate term as well as we'd like.

I don't think anyone disagrees that we wanted another striker in the summer, the issue then (as now) is that finding a striker of comparable ability to Hirst who is available and within budget isn't very easy.

Striker for Saturday on 18:44 - Jan 8 with 901 views | Vaughan8 | Ladapo seems to be finished here if we're honest. I know people won't agree, and I've not seen the latest games so can't comment too much, but I still think Ladapo is more of a goal threat than Jackson (not saying too much!) Jackson does a job, runs around, closes down, but I can't see many defences being worried about him. Unfortunately what we bought 5 years ago was a striker, but he's not really that anymore. Much better on the wings.

Nah there were definitely people shouting you down if you dared to suggest we needed/wanted someone else up top. And bar a couple of the usual divs I think everyone understands it's not as simple as just going and getting exactly what you're after like you're in a supermarket.

And we won't sign anyone for the sake of it, either.

I would also prefer Jackson, my point was that if somebody did come in then the quality of player would outweigh the previous posters point about having time to adapt to the system and that we'd be better of just taking the chance on the hypothetical new player.
Striker for Saturday on 20:20 - Jan 8 with 704 views | NthQldITFC | Not for Saturday, but I've looked into my crystal ball and I see a good Premier League loanee of 22 or so, more or less ready to go but still a bit rough plus £3m for a quality continental, probably Scandinavian lad, 24/25 and keen as mustard. Both very athletic closer-downers and aggressive at getting on the end of stuff. (I've read that back and it sounds a bit, you know erotic, but I'm definitely talking about football.) Striker for Saturday on 22:22 - Jan 8 with 618 views | BlueForYou | Was it you NQ, that mentioned during the live chat on Saturday, about playing Chaplin up front with Taylor coming into Chaplins role? I thought that was a pretty good idea. Must surely provide more of goal threat than Ladapo or Jackson up front alone? Or would McKenna change to a 352 & play them both? There’s always something different to be tried.
