I assume the window has expired for us to be able to get anyone in to play that position against Leicester. We’re going into the game with the least amount of options we have yet.
As much as I appreciate Jackson’s work rate and he played very well against Sunderland, Sunderland were full of mistakes and I doubt he’s going to get the same amount of opportunities against Leicester. Our midfield is going to have to be on it in terms of taking opportunities to really be able to get anything out of the game.
This is a bit of a shame because we’re playing Leicester at the absolute best time to play them and a crucial part of our game and McKenna’s strategy is missing in us having no one naturally being able to fulfil the “Hirst” role. It’s clear that he’s not going to play Broadhead in that position leaving us with Jackson and then our overall attacking options from the bench just… Aluko? Jackson clearly won’t play the full 90 so who’s coming on for him?

McKenna is a big fan of Scarlett so I would imagine he was keen on that signing. Ladapo was signed primarily to get us out of League 1 but did well enough to justify being given a chance at this level. Not sure what you think we could have done, other than predict the future. |

I think the annoyance is when Ashton is asked he will always say we have big plans for the next transfer window and that it will be exciting and we are always working behind the scenes to get the best players and get things moving. Then we get to the window and it’s more or less silence with little happening and then letting players leave.
And 04/05 we didn’t strengthen in Jan whilst being top of the league, same for 14/15 and even under Lambert in 19/20 we were top in Jan I think and didn’t strengthen. Then we fell away every time and it’s hard not to imagine this could happen this season. |

Apples and oranges comparing us 04/5 and this season. If we fall away* this season it will be more nuanced than simply because we didn't get who we wanted in this window. Also, Ladders for all I like about him and especially the job he did last season, just ain't cutting it where we find ourselves currently. Rather free up the space now and be able to act quickly even if it's second or third choice if the irons we clearly already have in the fire go cold towards the end of the window.

I think it's easy to decide that our recruitment team has failed by imagining that there must be, somewhere, somehow, someone we could have signed. I think it's harder to do that if you look at the rest of the business done by Championship clubs and ask whether anyone has done a deal we should have done.

We fancy any of those guys? A 37-year-old and two players who couldn't get regular starts for Watford and Cardiff, both moving down the table to teams in a relegation scrap.
There's not even that many (realistic) Summer transfers that I look at and wish we'd got involved in. In hindsight Will Keane would've been a sensible transfer to do and if there were any way of getting Stansfield or Delap instead of Scarlett clearly that would've improved us. Beyond that, there's a lot of money being spent on players who've made lesser contributions to their teams than Kayden Jackson has for us. [Post edited 20 Jan 2024 12:14]

Biggest miss is Morsy,
Plus our failure probably since September/ October when it was clear Scarlett was to raw and Freddie had reached his ceiling we needed two strikers and can't attract one this isn't good times,

Week and a half to go as well, under game changer , I don’t think we have ever failed in strengthening during a window, we just seem to sign players that no one really knows much about, or who are a bit out of favour, injury prone, and turn them into players everyone is talking about. Not true. Broke the Taylor news and been consistent with Williams.
Only other things I’ve mentioned with any authority was Crooks which agree didn’t happen but was def interest. Also mentioned Gallagher and know that financials are all sorted and he wants to come but Blackburn suddenly umming and ahhhing.
