Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds 13:55 - Jan 20 with 4553 views | unstableblue | And will have a wobble despite the 8 point gap And Saints will be Plymouth?! Watching this saints game, just can’t see them not getting an automatic. Downes is purring. A silly analogy I know. As the Sky pundit states “have we ever seen a stronger top 4 in the Championship?” Which is credit to Town to be honest

Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds on 17:47 - Jan 20 by Churchman | Yep let’s start running around bawling ‘we’re doomed’! We are poxy third. Where’s the tissues? Boooo. Or we can take a balanced view. 16 points isn’t too shabby since 1/12. Southamptons fixtures compared to ours? they’ve done brilliantly well. Swansea twice, Plymouth, Cardiff, Norwich, Wednesday, Cov, QPR, Watford and Blackburn. By comparison we’ve had easy meat Watford and Middlesbrough away, Cov, Stoke away, Sunlun, Leicester twice (we are likely to lose Monday but may get something. You never know), QPR, Leeds away and a local derby where they got lucky. The reality is that fixtures have helped a very good Saints side. They’ve not helped us and neither has injuries to our a good number of our best players. It happens. QPR we did well to get a point having a ravaged team just a few days after a truly sapping battle with Leicester. Same with the Stoke game a few days later. We are short up front. We have been all season. But I’d rather go with what we have than compromise ourselves financially going forwards or take a risk on the ‘wrong’ players and wreck the brilliant squad spirit we have. The relegated clubs are very strong at the moment. Nobody is laying a glove on them most of the time. All we need to do is enjoy the ride. Support the players who are giving their all and see where we finish. You are rarely going to win games like we did last year. It’s a long season and we are going well on and off the field. I am really enjoying what McKenna and his players are doing/ trying to do. It’s more realistic in my view than worrying about teams with £80m forward lines and £millions in parachute money. I don't even know how you've managed to go onto such a defensive rant, when I just referring to the 2 on paper games we somehow didn't win against the tougher games in that month. I don' t think we're doomed

Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds on 18:39 - Jan 20 with 1091 views | Herbivore | Southampton have a tough run in coming up. They had a tricky start to the season and they've got a tricky end to it too, but the in between has been a fairly benign run of fixtures that they've capitalised on impressively. It'll be interesting to see how they react when they do inevitably lose one, they had a few back to back poor results earlier on in the season. We'll see, long way to go and crapping ourselves over the form of other teams does nothing positive.

I like a rant and I’m the first to admit it. But my post was objective about what we are, where we are and what happened in December. If you want to keep focussing on a local derby, where odd things often happen and a game with half a team just a few days after a battle of a game against Leicester and six after a visit to Leeds, that’s your prerogative

I'm not focusing on it no. Just when you look back at December where the points dropped. It wasn't the games expected.

Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds on 22:28 - Jan 20 with 938 views | Pinewoodblue | Have checked form table, for convenience ignoring this weekends results Over 27 games the table reads Leicester; Ipswich; Southampton, Leeds over last 18 games Southampton; Leicester; Leeds; Ipswich over last 9 games Leicester; Southampton; Coventry; Leeds with Ipswich 5th. Norwich incidentally are 6th, 1 point behind both Ipswich & Leeds. Leeds have a significantly better goal difference than town, as do Norwich We are going to find it difficult to keep pace with Southampton, especially if we lose Monday but a win keeps the gap to 3rd and more or less halves the gap between us & Leicester. Even those who expected Town to be in the mix for the play offs couldn't have imagined us being in the position we are. The loss of Hirst is a serious blow and a lot hinges on what happens in the transfer market over the next 10 days We are 3/5th of the way through the season still a lot to play for we have a tight squad but a not so tight defence . As things stand we will probably need 95 or more points for Automatic. The points gap between 3rd & 6th come the end of the season is going to be massive. Preston beat Leeds tomorrow and their are six clubs within 3 points of the play offs. Enjoy the ride.

Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds on 16:10 - Jan 20 by BrettenhamBlue | Unfortunately, we have nowhere near the fire power necessary to make a determined bid to get into the automatics. I think we will end the season in 4th or 5th, which would still be a great season. Play offs and anything could happen. |
Aren't we still near enough top scorers in the league?

You have to take into account fixture difficulty though. Southampton have had a serious run of fixtures against poor/very average sides. Their last 7 wins in the last 10 are against: 16th, 23rd, 15th, 22nd, 17th, 14th, 13th. And they've drawn with Norwich, Watford and Coventry. After 10th Feb is when the fixtures start to turn for me, we will have played Leicester, Leeds, West Brom twice. Southampton will still have to go away to West Brom, Leeds, us and Leicester - the four toughest places to go in the league. 9 of their last 16 games are against the current top 10. We just have to hang in there and be within 3 points of them after the next 3 games. Leeds are still 7 points behind us.

It wasn't where expected but we are still roughly where you'd have expected us to be points wise. Norwich was frustrating because it was self inflicted, we missed too many chances. QPR was one of those freak games you get from time to time - we had 5 of arguably our 6 most important players all out at the same time and it showed. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Indeed, whilst Saints are no doubt in excellent form you have to take account of the fixtures as well. They had a tough start and look to have a tough final third of the season too, but this middle chunk of games has been one long sequence of very winnable fixtures. Credit to them for not slipping up much at all during that run of games as that's no mean feat in itself, but they still have a lot of very tricky looking games to play between now and the end of the season. If they keep this form up then fair play to them, they'll deserve to go up, but I would be surprised if they don't have a few more blips to come and it'll be interesting to see their reaction.

Do you think Leicester might be Sheff Weds on 08:40 - Jan 21 with 764 views | Chrisd | It seems that those relegated sides from the EPL have been able to keep their squads in tact in the main. When you look at the depth and quality those 3 sides have it is ridiculous for the Championship. The fact we are still in the mix is quite amazing, I think we are playing to our maximum to be quite honest. We’ve got good players, but not to the quality those sides have. During the first half yesterday, I thought Southampton looked such a good side, purring with confidence. They could’ve been 4 or 5-1 up at half time, Swansea’s goal came right out of the blue. Those teams should finish in the top 3 places with the squads and money advantage they have, but football doesn’t always work like that.

Yes agree Saints were just putting that first half… but Swansea were poor. Preston are giving Leeds a really good game right now. And when Swansea did attach with Bollasi second half. Saints wobbles a little. Was is amazing me is the parachute clubs are just not losing players! I would have expected that 2 or 3 players would have left all 3 by now. Such quality. But I think the clubs are keen to retain and go again in the Premiership! [Post edited 21 Jan 2024 12:53]

They're all still in with a chance of promotion so will gamble on keeping them and the offload in the summer if they do go up. Parachute payments give them such an advantage, it's ridiculous really.

Another key point is the quality of the loan players they have been able to bring in, made possible by parachute payments. Significantly more experienced than the loan players we have.
