Anyone else concerned? We have massive problems in 2 areas and a pretty big problem in one.
Centre half - Stones has hardly played and Maguire is a knacker, who else is there?
Left back - we don’t have one, literally.
Centre mid - probably a good problem but how do we deploy Bellingham exactly? Rice is great but who do we play with him? Mainoo is a child and bossman clearly doesn’t like Maddison for whatever reason

Yes on paper we are mustard up front. But how do you cram them all in? Palmer and Foden basically play the same role in the same position.

Make me feel better about this fam.

Think we make the Semi finals where we are likely to meet France. Win that one and we win the tournament.
Trent AA is not a midfielder.

He can play there though, he is arguably better as a deep lying playmaker than he is a right back. His defending is not the best and pace is not great either. He does however have amazing vision and passing ability. Back in 2018 when he made his breakthrough he was a midfielder but as Liverpool's midfield was stacked at the time and they only had Clyne as a senior RB he was shoehorned into that position to get game time.

He just scored a belter. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I know nothing.

Steven Gerrard would have proud of that pass to Grealish not long before he scored. With Connor Bradley improving day by day and Scousepool short in midfield perhaps their next manager will ease Bradley in to become their 1st choice RB and play Trent in midfield. I think Bradley would need a year on loan, perhaps to a club with a great young manager who is known for developing young players.

Can Alexander-Arnold play alongside Rice? I don't keep up with the Premier League or England much nowadays so don't know if he even plays there much now.

Evidently he does.

It’s easy to look good passing when you are deep and have 6 players ahead of you making runs. Much harder in CM when it may be only 1 or 2. I thought Wharton looked much better when he came on, several times he took the ball in midfield on the turn and played it forward immediately. Trent dawdles and takes too long.

Especially in positions like full back and centre midfield, where your positioning and decision-making are so important, a good specialist is almost always a better option than a very good non-specialist. Think this is particularly true in international football where players don't have endless time to learn new roles.

Don't think Southgate has ever really got that "6" role right and it probably cost England at least 1 actual trophy. Here's who he's picked for it this season: TAA, Henderson, Phillips, Gallagher - looks very muddled to me.

I disagree! I thought Wharton was too keen to pass the ball sideways or backwards, his forward passes were when teammates played the ball in front of him so he was already facing that way.

I think TAA is our best passer, I don't know how he'd do in midfield against a top opponent but he's a good option to have.

Not impossible, but both have objectively weaker squads and worse recent tournament records than England.

There's probably only 2 positions that Germany are stronger than England in and one of them is goalkeeper.

Just not really that bothered off the back of our season and i just don't ever really expect with England, even with the slightly better recent tournament showings and some genuinely world class players.

If England win - Fantastic what a way to finsh the perfect season. If England get knocked out early, i'll just be like oh well nevermind, now let me look at that Prem fixture list again!

As a man in my forties I would say my my passion and exceitemnt for Ipswich almost gets stronger as I get older, even having endured some dark days over the last 10 years. However my passion for international football and England actually dwindles year by year even with having a pretty decent team these days. It's nothing like how mad for it i was in my 20s, even went to some away games but now just doesn't seem the same now.

With the Euros being held in Germany, where I live, I feel like it is a chance for England to write the wrongs of my youth and beat the Germans on home turf. My son is half German, and as he is 5 it's his first proper tournament. Added to that I have a ticket for a random match in the last 16. I'm not enthused by the manager, but we have some exciting talent that can turn games on their head, so we have a chance to win it despite the manager not being brave enough.
You never know, maybe with a few Ipswich players in the national squad, you might become more interested.

Sorry can't make you feel better. We'll ease thru the group stages and the first good side we face, we'll crumble as usual. We alway look good on paper. I blame Southgate, just doesn't have the tactical nous to make the best of the players. How can you not have a dedicated left back going into a tournament.

Now we have Bellingham at the top of his game and maybe Palmer as well as Kane, I feel like these players can overcome the limitations of the manager and actually win it. We have had good enough players to win every single tournament that we have played under Southgate. If we had a manager like KM we would have definitely won at least one of those.

Back in the mid mid 2000s an initiative was put into place to produce more talented players and less big bruiser types. It has worked well but has also backfired. We now have Saka, Foden and Palmer to name but three and the beast that is Bellingham but we no longer have Rio Ferdinand or John Terry type players in defence. That is a problem. France for example have Mike Maignan, some excellent centre backs like Kounde, Konate, Lucas Hernandez, Saliba, Upamacano, Pavard and Varane and a top class LB in Theo Hernandez who would be almost guaranteed starters for England. Their midfield is lacking a little but they have Mbappe. That is why they are my favourites to win the Euros.
