The little man shouldn’t apologise for a deliberate act. He knew what he was doing. He wasn’t interested and didn’t want to be there. Probably couldn’t be bothered to look up DDay was and represented.

All that act shows is what he is. A self serving runt who no more cares about the sacrifice of people than he would if he trod on an ant. I bet his Twitter/X post was written by some PA. The responses are spot on.

At every interview this episode can be mentioned. When first slithered out of No10 he talked about integrity. Must have been his little joke since the weasel has none.

As apologies go,and considering the event and the speed at which the apology has appeared it does feel a bit written by ai. 3 paragraphs talking about DDay commemorations. 1 line as an apology that's framed as on reflection almost as a passing thought.

It's pretty poor stuff

It doesn't appear to be an honest apology if, as firmly suggested, he left early.

He apologises for not staying on afterwards. He does not acknowledge or apologise for leaving early.

He is digging deeper. He now says:

"Sunak says the itinerary "was set weeks ago" and that having participated in the British veterans' events he decided to leave before the international leaders event. "

So he planned this interview to deal with misleading people at the recent debate, before he called an election? Really?

Just watched the interview. The itinerary was "set for me" weeks ago. So he had decided to leave early before there was anything else to get back for.

Not sure that makes it any better, frankly. I imagine, as PM, he could have a say in his own itinerary....

Another carefully worded but disingenuous
statement:
"the prime minister was always scheduled to attend D-Day commemorations, including the UK National Commemoration event in Normandy, and it is incorrect to suggest otherwise."

No one has claimed he wasn't scheduled. The claim was of initial discussions were about whether he would go at all (i.e. before schedules were set). Once decisions were made, of course he was "always scheduled". It doesn't actually address the claim. I hope someone can get hold of, and leak the relevant emails...

It doesn’t matter if an itinerary was set years ago and carved into the rocks at Mount Rushmore. If he’d collapsed on Wednesday would they have changed his itinerary on Thursday? Of course they would.

You can change what you plan to do. It is not difficult. He can even get his diary manager to make the call. It was his choice alone to leg it. He wasn’t interested. Didn’t care.

I see the ratty little man is now saying that he doesn’t want to politicise this. Hang on, he decided to leg it as soon as he could get away ….to do a political interview! No contradiction there then. You couldn’t make it up.

It didn't need changing. The underlying point, which he is seeking to distract from, was that he planned to leave early all along! It shouldn;t have been schedule that way in the first place. Why would a British PM NOT ensure he was therefore for an event on Normandy beaches with world leaders?

And as you say- he's now trying to suggest others are being disrespectful by politicising... Frankly, the competence, judgment, integrity and attitudes of a PM are fundamental political issues.

I tell you what Clive, he is excellent at rehashing the party line each time a question is asked to make sure they don't get any emotional answer to any individual question that can get stripped of context and blown out of proportion. Finally, we've found something he's good at.

Of course, it doesn't really amount to anything when the party line is a load of insincere easily-contested nonsense.

Exactly it's one if those non apology apologies,i half expect him to add later today and lessons have been learned.

It's one thing to bodge the DDay events, it's another to compound the error by such an insincere apology

The line of questioning at 2:30, about whether he or his team ever considered scrapping yesterday's attendance, seems pretty specific.

Does it sound to anyone else as if Rishi's being set up for the release of documentary proof at some point over the next few days?

An apology, let alone an honest one, from a tory is a contradiction in terms.

They saying it's 'baseless'. That really means 'go on prove it'. It doesn't mean it's untrue.
