Vile people, aren’t they. Shame they didn’t get done for trafficking too and have their wealth confiscated and donated to charities.

Worth £37bn and they paying their servants £7 to work 18 hour days. Prison is too good for them.

It is said that Donald Trump once ran to pick up A Quarter to prevent an old woman from doing so. As you said, vile people.

Not all rich are bad. Bill Gates gave more money to tackle Covid in Africa than The US Government or any government for that matter.

Before we get too dewy eyed over Bill Gates’ generosity, it won’t have forced him to shop at Poundland. According to Forbes he’s worth a measly $133bn. I believe his Foundation donated $2bn to Africa in respect of Covid.

He might well be a lovely, generous person and more philanthropic than most but I tend to scale generosity against what somebody has, not the number itself. That his foundation donates so many $? Whoopee. Maybe the others should too.

As for the subject of the BBC article, these people treat their slaves, because that’s what they are, as nothing. Chattels. Worthless. The argument that they get peripheral benefits is a bit like saying a plantation slave got a food, a roof over their heads and fed.

Sadly, this scum is not alone. Look at how Putin views people. Fodder. People traffickers - they don’t care what they are doing. It’s just easy money for them. The Tories and their 14 year campaign to redistribute wealth to their people. Did they really care about the impact? Of course not. Too many people in this world are more than happy to tread on others to enrich themselves. It’s sadly a human condition.

Neh, not really having that. He's given about £36 billion to the foundation. Don't really care how much money he has that is a staggering about of money and exceptionally generous. It's £36 billion he doesn't have to give (albeit I'm sure some tax breaks or something). If someone gives away a huge amount to charity (more than their government for major causes) I don't want to be hearing 'yes, but'. Let's just applaud that and hopefully more follow suit.

I really can’t fully get on board with this Bill Gates take. He’s committed to giving away practically his entire wealth to his charitable foundation over time. As long as he is true to that, I don’t think we can chastise him for not giving away everything during his lifetime. What percentage of a persons wealth must they give away in order to satisfy you?

What you also have to bear in mind is that whilst Bill Gates doesn’t NEED all his money to live comfortably (the typical argument from most), he is a brilliant entrepreneur who can still influence the world in a positive way and accrue further wealth ultimately for the benefit of his foundation. Giving all his wealth away today would stop that overnight.

I think I'm right in saying that the US has a good record when it comes to philanthropy from very wealthy people, with Andrew Carnegie from the 19th century being an early example.

It doesn't seem that the same philosophy exists in this country with the wealthy apparently much more keen to hang on to it all.

Of course, there are exceptions such as the Clore Foundation (after whom the Clore Gallery at Tate Britain is named) but they seem few and far between.

Some very rich British people to give a lot of money to charity. A few are generous but the majority do so in the hope that they get to kneel and The King or Prince William taps their shoulders with a sword. Branson is a fine example. Gives a lot of money to charity, gets knighted, closes all his UK based call centres making hundreds unemployed and relocates them to India where he can pay people a pittance making the money back he gave to charity in a few months and raking in the profit after that. Others buy Knighthoods by donating money to government. "Would you like me to donate £1,000,000 to The Conservative Party Prime Minister?" "Yes please Sir Knobhead, that is very generous of you."

While the caste system still works in Indian culture, the treatment of lower castes working for the rich will continue.
