Leif Davis in the England team would have shone and our left side might have functioned better.

Ok for this match but not sure his defensive work is up to better opponents yet

Trippier cuts back towards his own goal every time. So frustrating! Did put one fantastic cross in though.

When you need a goal or playing against all our defence Leif is a great option. Should have gone.

I get where you are coming from, but at this level he would just be targeted relentlessly. Plus he really doesn’t fit into the Southgate system

You're right, Leif likes to get beyond the half way line . . .

Because he is fit and a left back? There are at least 5 Premier League English left backs ahead of him at the moment. Give him time and he will shine.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

He will be in the england squad for the first international break next season. It's all just politics - the england manager isn't allowed to pick championship players. After 1 game in the prem, he'll be in there. Shame it's that way because the england teamin this tournament has zero width to it and just the fact that he'd run that line and stretch theopposition would make a huge difference, even if he fluffed every cross (which of course he wouldn't).

Poll: Which would you accept?

I thought that England were consciously trying to use the left side - maybe Slovenia funnelled them that way, but Trippier seemed to get a lot more ball. I had assumed that we were consciously trying to make the left side work - but it really didn't and Foden spent a lot of time carrying the ball back across the pitch.

Bellingham / Foden / Kane / Saka would all benefit from having someone who puts in a good ball from the left

On the other hand, Ipswich will benefit from Leif staying at home building his fitness for next season...

There is really only one fit English left back who you would definitely say is ahead of him, and that is Tyrick Mitchell at Palace, and even with him it was rumoured he had made himself unavailable as he was considering a switch to play for Jamaica. It is an area that we really haven't got a lot of options, and I think it is fair to suggest if Davis has 3 decent games at the start of the year he could be in the England team for the September internationals.

I think the only left back who can genuinely feel hard done by is Tyrick Mitchell at Palace. Jarrad Brainthwaite was another but he is a CB not a LB.

Then you've got names like Ben Chilwell, Lloyd Kelly, Lewis Hall, Rico Henry (if he's even fit) etc who probably deserve a shout over Davis first.

Truth is, Leif Davis is good and I'm sure he will stand out for us in the Prem and be acknowledged for a potential call up next season, but he wasn't ready to go straight into the England squad this summer.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

Trippier has been solid enough but i think we need to have wing backs
