Twitter is a mix of "Pure profit" and "No buy back?!" Interesting to see how divided they are on the transfer, especially with Arsenal getting a kickback.

What's your hunch on the fee and the likelihood of the deal happening, Phil? Feels like we are frontrunners to sign him but I won't be celebrating until he's pictured on the PR pitch holding up a Town scarf.

Trying to get a feel of the mood myself. Obviously looks a deal which is advancing but at the same time you assume Chelsea or the agent have put the info out there to to try to flush out other interested parties.

2 Chelsea fans in the pub last night, talking about their surprise he would go to Ipswich. Basically they thought he was heading towards being a top player, but another failed youngster, who has decided to swap from a team challenging for PL winners/CL place to a team battling against relegation. The arrogant idiots even made the point why would you swap from a team with Cole Palmer in to one with Colin Chaplin in - yes they called him Colin. I've kept my powder dry, but will enjoy reminding them at the end of the season when we finish above them in the league

I am sure this will be the case. I presume the final fee will not be mentioned. Chelsea will suggest it's nearly £30, Ipswich would want to suggest it's nearer £15m, but not in either interests to really disclose. More likely it's £12-16m or similar with loads of addons related to survival, sellon, goals, caps etc because that will spread cost and risk for Ipswich. No idea on personal. I presume he might be Ipswich's top paid player if it all happens, and now we are in big-money-land, there's always going to be the risk of upsetting squad balance and camaraderie, or others eg Broadhead's or Davies's agents now asking for much, much more. I can imagine it's a really delicate balancing act not just for the books, but for egos and relational issues.

Surely any 'flushing out' would have been done already as it's been pretty well known that he is available. I think it'll get done and the timing is no coincidence with the FFP deadline so from a Chelsea POV any new interest would have to happen pretty sharpish. (Having said that I though we would sign Simms last summer!!)

"failed youngster"? 😂 😂 If the club regard him as that, no wonder Chelsea are in the mess they're in.

Give me Charlie Chaplin over Cole Porter any day of the week but it's not up to me but Maureen O'Hara. [Post edited 28 Jun 2024 12:00]

Last throw of the dice, I suspect. Agree, timing is no coincidence, gather from a conversation I've just had that Chelsea are as up against it on FFP situation as had been claimed.
