He can "disown" people who show their true colours but he has created the monster. It is all on him, not that people in the Clacton constituency will be concerned.

i'd say 95% of people didn't actually want to leave the EU, they didn't like all the red tape and BS that came with it .... for example i work in shipping and in 2011 we had the health authorites reject a container of fish because of what was very clearly a typing error (of 1 digit) on the health certificate - the health officer told us he knew it was an error, he knew there was nothing wrong with it but he HAD to reject it because of EU legislation ... those are the kind of frustrations people had

in 1975 we joined on the basis of free movement of goods and people but over the years we were signed up to European parliament, courts and god knows what else without getting a say in it and people slowly got fed up of it ..... if it was still free movement of goods and people then theres no way anyone would have wanted to leave

I do wonder about some people honestly.

"they didn't like all the red tape and BS that came with it"

As opposed to now where it's far simpler and absolutely no added work at all for those who import and export...

I didn't say stop them - i said reduce it to a more manageable number while we improve public services to be able to cope.

Also, just to reiterate I don't think that immigration is THE problem, i agree with you that there are several issues that all need to be addressed but a population increasing at the rate that it is certainly isn't helping .... and if this useless government had improved the NHS and built new surgeries and houses and improved public services to go in line with the increase then it wouldn't be a problem at all. But the fact of the matter is they haven't and as a result those public services can't cope with the demands.

For example - why are there hundreds of hotels packed out with immigrants ? because we haven't got anywhere else to put them would be my answer ?!!

The reason we have asylum seekers in hotels is because we take too long to process their claims and so they end up needing accommodation for longer than is necessary. If we processed claims more quickly and had a functioning asylum system, this would be much less of an issue. And asylum seekers are a relatively small proposition of our overall immigration figures, out of net migration of circa 700k last year, the number of asylum seekers was under 100k. The others primarily came to work or study or as dependents of people working and studying in the UK.

As a never-voting-for-them-again ex-conservative voter, I'm completely undecided.
But the reform candidate standing where some friends are doesn't strike me as being racist - Kabeer Kher (Mid Norfolk)
Same for some old mates Reform candidate down Bicester way - Augustine Obodo

Mate, this is the political equivalent of saying "I can't be racist, I've got black mates".

I'm not particularly alligned to any party - i try and vote for who i think is best in any given election ... i won't blindly vote conservative or Labour just because they are who they are

I'll be voting for Starmer for a few reasons

1. The conservatives have had 14 years to get things right and they simply don't deserve another 5 and thats without all their in-fighting replacing leaders, chancellors every 2 minutes, they fcuked the economy, they held parties while we all in lock down ..... i'd actually rather put my teenager in charge than have another Tory prime minister

2. I've said before Starmer doesn't inspire me with confidence and TBH he still doesn't BUT he deserves an opportunity and like the conservatives if he lies, doesn't fulfill his promises and there are secret tax rises he will face the consequences next time he goes to the polls just as they have

3. I simply don't see any credible alternative Lib Dems, Greens, Reform all have certain policies (some more than others) that I simply can't vote for ... for example while i think Immigration numbers are too high, i don't want it to go to the extremes Farage wants to take it to, The Greens spending proposal is ludicrous to the extreme ......

I think in football terms as a country we are in the relegation zone and Starmer is Big Mick ... boring as hell but ultimately a (hopefully) safe pair of hands

We should be training as many asylum seekers as we can, to work in roles where they are processing asylum seekers. Let them have the Isle of Wight for this, and mainland Britain can happily forget about the issue until after the world ends. Every ones a winner.

So you’re saying that Asian or black people can’t be racist? Interesting take.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm sure they can be.
However, rightly or wrongly, I think when the term 'racist' is used, it generally conjures up an image of racist white folks. But hey, perhaps that's just me.

Yeah that about sums it up. It would be nice to vote for something you want, instead of against something you don't want, but crikey it's difficult.

Would you not rather Starmer focuses on fixing the NHS, improving education at all levels, improving infrastructure, including building more affordable housing, and growing the economy rather than reducing immigration? Why has that become a top priority for you and others when having fewer immigrants isn't likely to materially improve your life?

It was a perfectly reasonable question considering immigrants are not responsible for the challenges facing the education system, the NHS waiting lists, the lack of investment in strategic infrastructure, the housing crisis, and our underperforming economy.

Too true.
I had a second generation Indian in Seattle tell me that 'you guys in the UK aren't racist enough'. He'd gone right through the Trump looking glass. Terrifying.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I think it is wrong to regard Jewish people opposed to the actions of the state of Israel, or supportive of Corbyn, as racist or antisemitic.

Jewish Voice for Labour is a case in point. I know Jenny Manson, its Chair, who is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. She is Jewish, opposed to the actions of Israel and has even had her Jewishness questioned.

Here is a link to an interview with her in the Jewish Chronicle from 2018.

https://www.thejc.com/news/features/meet-jeremy-corbyns-devoted-jewish-defender-

She seems genuinely hurt at the response that her actions have drawn from the wider Jewish community. “Very offensive things have been written about me and my colleagues,” she says, with some passion. “Whatever you or anyone has to say about JVL, we do not publish offensive things about other people.”

She is particularly upset about a JC column by David Aaronovitch, criticising Leah Levane, Manson’s co-chair, describing her as Mr Corbyn’s idea of a “really good Jew.”

“We don’t call the Board of Deputies or the JLC, not proper Jews. We might disagree with them but we don’t personalise it and we certainly don’t question people’s Jewishness. In fact I think it is a strange kind of antisemitism to do that,” she says.

“My style of politics is not nasty and I’ve been in politics for some time.”

The ‘this is a media stitch up’ from Farage is definitely Trump-esque.

If you don’t want the media to show you as a racist, then you probably shouldn’t surround yourself with racists, or court their votes.

Edited so as not to derail the thread.
