Delap 21:06 - Jul 7 with 9031 views | tractorboy1978 | Interesting one really. McKenna obviously really likes him and he has the attributes to play either as the number 9 or the wide right role in our system. However, do we think we would see him as the main striker addition this window? Feels unlikely and slightly risky to me which makes me wonder if we still intend to spend a decent fee in that area. A permanent for him is going to cost you £10m+ I would think, so makes me wonder if City fancy a loan, hoping he does well and they can add a few quid more to his asking price next summer? When you start crunching the numbers, a permanent would take us to a £65m odd spend still needing a GK, CM and main striker (assuming the assumption above is right). [Post edited 7 Jul 2024 21:08]

Tend to agree, think Delap is more comparable to Burns than anyone else, but can obviously play up top if needed, so some versatility there that we know McKenna is keen on.

Maybe, but I think we could still function well (for half a season at least) without a real goal threat from #9, so long as the work rate is high enough (like with Hirst). Two Hirsts plus an Al-Hamadi for example would be fine for me, if we've got the likes of Hutch, Philogene(?), Burns etc. feeding off that hard-working #9. Ideally, I'd love a more prolific striker (and Ioannidis looks like he is one) but if finances dictate we can't do that this window on top of our other ambitious purchases, I think we can get by till January at least.

Delap on 21:15 - Jul 7 by Westover | 12 goals in 68 championship games is not great although he is only 21 years old and will improve under KMc but surely we need someone to score regularly from the off. |
Instead of using those stats as a yardstick it would be more pertinent to look at the attributes the player holds and how they suit McKenna’s style of play and system. Delap would be a fantastic signing and one that offers something a bit different than existing forwards we have currently. He’s still a young man and would only improve under McKenna!
