Seems to suggest its pretty much done

Poll: best attacking central midfielder?

for city to include buy back and 20% sell on, that would say they see something in him. which usually says a lot.

I hope the buy back price isn't set too low. That leaves them the opportunity just to buy him back and flip him on for a profit if he does well.

But I guess if its a deal breaker, then we may have to swallow it.

Would it be a fixed fee buy-back, or more along the lines of a matching option similar to in the Omari deal and, apparently, as Villa had in their deal with Hull for Philogene?

If it was a matching option, they would refer to it as a matching option I would think.

They are massively different clauses.

Just speculation at this point though.

Not a huge amount, they only get activated if the player is improves significantly.

If they improve significantly, thats great. But if that player is worth £40m and they can buy back at £25m, its not great.

However, I dont think Ashton gets his pants pulled down very often, so he will set the price ambitiously high I would hope.

All calculated risk isn't it. I'd he develops to the level manchester city would deem suitable for a return, we would likely be flying, take the marginal profit and ha e confidence in our ability to attract someone new, all be it at a hit on potential profit.

I think we are on the same page.

Although they wouldn't necessarily only buy him back to play for them.

They could just buy him back to flip on for profit towards FFP.

Would have to match the highest offer we receive minus the 20% sell on fee.

Omari has the same with Chelsea.

No buy back with Omari. But they have a sell on.

Matching offer with Omari.

Sure with Delap if it's not the same clause we would have pre determined figure. Hopefully 40 million to activate it if thats the case.

A buy back is different to a matching clause.

Harry Kane from memory didn't score many championship goals yet went on to become one of the best English strikers to play the game.

You'd imagine if delap goes anywhere close to meeting thst level of greatness man city will be in very quickly with what ever buy back fee has been agreed.

Knowing ashton. I imagine it'll be around the £60/70 mill figures.

a niche perspective

Think it's interesting how our player purchasing model has changed where we are looking to younger prospects with high junior attainments to look for growth ourselves. Definitely shows how we are looking to the future with player trading ourselves.

I genuinely think leif will be the first casualty/victory of this approach next summer

Yeah, I guess its the Brentford / Brighton model that every club aspires too.

I guess if we get a respectable finish in the Prem, then Leif may well stay.

This is why for those wetting their pants over PR being developed in the form of the Cobbold Stand being replaced only look at past time when we have been stitched up by frankly poor deals on the Pioneer Stand, the subsequent demotion and the problems arising from the purchase of Finidi George and Matteo Serini. We now have a multi million pound fund behind us, £170 million in payments, merchandise going through the roof, full houses every game and parachute payments. Added to this we have players being bought with almost guaranteed profits should they be sold on and the likelyhood that within the next 10 years we will be developing a decent crop of young players. Something that again Marcus Evans managed to run down.

On the subject of Kane, an ITFC scout who I knew said he went to look at Kane just before he broke through and didn’t think much of him.

Kane then got his chance in the Spurs first team, hit form immediately and never looked back.
