I think the writing was on the wall once Villa matched the offer.

Not particularly? Granted Villa have a lot more going for them, but one of the reasons why he left last summer was because his pathway was blocked to the first team? And they’ve since signed 2 more wingers on top of the ones they already last summer when they sold him.

I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as people think, albeit it would be difficult for him to turn down a move back there.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

At 22 coming up 23 he needs to play games now not 4 or 5 starts and 15 sub appearances. Villa might think he’s ready to start if so fair enough but if he waste’s a year then more fool him.

Still think we have really good chance. If he plays well here then he gets a good move in 12-24 months.

Not sure we have, have we? Just simply Villa have matched our bid and his personal terms were agreed last summer when they sold him.

Simply down to the player now and what he feels is best for his development. That’s how I’ve read the situation today anyway.

When the news broke of Villa matching it I felt that was it, especially as personal terms were all agreed as well.

Why did they not just go in for him sooner?

Biased but if I was him I’d come here, will be a certain starter, a lot of competition at Villa and there must’ve been a reason why they sold him in the first place, they could’ve just loaned him.

Suppose the reason why they never went in for him sooner was because they knew they had 3 days to match any bid, at any given time.

Let’s not forget the wording from Ornstein’s tweet yesterday either ‘Villa matching rights until Wednesday, and ready to activate but will respect players wishes’.

Hopefully his wishes are to come here!

Well if he were to prioritise wages over playing & developing his skills as a footballer under our top manager renowned for improving players ...

To be fair, Unai Emery is no slouch.

Oh, dont get me wrong, I hope youre right.

But given their history with him, I wonder if they knew he would say yes before they matched the offer. Money / wages talks.

If he had a sensible agent guiding him, I'd agree.

Hope youre right.

Could they buy him and then loan him out to Ipswich 🤔

No prem to prem loans can’t happen for a player that has already moved in the same window.
