Seeing lots of people say we’ll comfortably stay up…. 11:29 - Jul 18 with 8926 views | Matt_Netherlands | Is this a bit naive? Feel like some people are in for a bit of a nasty surprise at the big step up in quality this year. We’ve had an incredible two years and we are strengthening very sensibly, but for me I still think it’ll be one hell of an achievement to stay up. I’ll take 17th place on goal difference right now. I applaud the courage and optimism, but I just hope that doesn’t lead to blind complacency and the whole atmosphere around the club turning a bit sour if we got off to a bad start - which is very very possible. Look at Sheff Utd last season. Went up with a similar number of points to us, spent a fair bit of money and then got ripped to shreds. I think our league cup game against Fulham last year shows there’s still a huge gap between the championship and mid table prem teams. I fully trust in the process and know Kieran will have us incredibly well prepared, but I just hope there’s no sense of complacency and entitlement when the season kicks off. Sensible Simon, over and out.

Seeing lots of people say we’ll comfortably stay up…. on 13:18 - Jul 18 by tractorboy1978 | Yeah, McKenna and the players will take it one game at a time and hope to get a result in every game. I don't think our approach changes. But as fans, it is all about making sure we stay up. Can't be getting too ahead of ourselves and creating further expectations. |
The last two seasons have had 46 cup finals each. We only have 38 this time. We can do this !

Seeing lots of people say we’ll comfortably stay up…. on 16:00 - Jul 18 by ElephantintheRoom | I too worry that there are better teams than WBA and Leeds in the Prem - and more of them. I wonder if McKenna has the tactical nous to cope with better teams week in, week out targeting Town’s obvious weaknesses. Or that VAR will not be kind to them. Still…. Leicester look down already so who knows. |
Looking at other teams ,one thing struck me today. Last season the best players we faced were probably Summerville, Dewsbury Hall and Rutter - all three of which stood out as a cut above. Next season though, they’ll be bang average players for the division at best. That’s the difference. Edit: Appreciate two of them wont actually be in the division, but you get the point. Seeing lots of people say we’ll comfortably stay up…. on 11:57 - Jul 18 by J2BLUE | There is some extreme delusion. The funniest one was someone saying Ashton and McKenna definitely wouldn't take 17th now. It's a massive step up. I have every confidence in McKenna and the squad though. |

That said, I'm not complacent in the slightest and I have absolutely no sense of entitlement. I trust in Kieran and his selection of honest, hard-working and very likeable players and support team. Should Kieran leave however, I'll be throwing my toys around and flapping like ... a very flappy thing.

Trust the small handful, not the mass. We play with a fluency, a pace and patterns to trouble teams. The Athletic have been singing our praises and called out how we’ll be safe this season. I have every confidence we’ll be in the or around the middle of the third tier of teams.

Comfortable, that’s not a word I’m going with unless it’s - Comfortable in the way that it won’t be until Feb/March earliest that we’ve amassed enough points to consider relegation behind us. Until then it’s nail biting week to week football, slowly slowly accumulating points at a rate of about 4-5 points a month! (Not the 12 plus points we’ve come to enjoy). It’s going to be a long winter. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. MU achieved 60 points, hardly setting the world alight, and finished in the magical position of eighth. 50-60 points in now the thing that dreams are made of! Mindset change required all around!

1-1, 2-2 and 3-2 are weird scores? Perhaps you didn't get the other numbers, which were as the table would read in the examples given:- W L D F A Pts 0 0 2 0 6 0 And W L D F A Pts 0 1 1 4 5 1

But trust is a human emotion, a form of belief. Computers, all machines, can only operate according to the laws of physics and logic. Of course, you can make an argument that brains are only wet computer and all we do conforms to a deterministic logic but we are capable of so much parallel processing that it would take a computer bigger than the Universe to work out what goes on in just one of our brains.

How do you get 2 draws with 0 for and 6 against ?
Staying up will be extremely difficult: two key factors on 14:57 - Jul 19 with 1097 views | unstableblue | I’d take 17th place right now. Staying up next season would be a massive achievement, and given the fact we continue to bring in youth, would set the foundation for a real Premier League spell. The two key factors to our survival are: 1) There being 3 worse teams than us in the 24/25 season - all 3 promoted teams went straight back down last term. And despite Leicester and Everton point deductions and issues incoming, despite perceptions of Southampton (Downes and that team dominated us at times last season) - it remains a tough field. And I think Palace, Bournemouth and Fulham continue to improve. Wolves feel a potential rival. 2) Good transfer business whilst having continuity - I like our transfer business to date, and I expect they’ll be 4 or 5 players from last term in the Liverpool starting 11. But we lack Premiership experience, a midfield dominator with pace and a proven striker at this level. And of course McKenna is the other critical factor. In him we trust. But stating we will survive comfortably is a little too blue goggled for me.
