Leeds looks a bit "lively" tonight.... on 09:28 - Jul 19 by gainsboroughblue | Poll tax riots were 1990. I remember coming back from a Town away game and there were tons of coaches returning from London for the protests. Edit. Think it was on our way back from Plymouth as it was fairly late and definitely recall seeing lots of coaches at a service stop on the M4 [Post edited 19 Jul 2024 9:30]

A quick Google corrects me….. Poll Tax riots were on the Saturday 31st March. The Strangeways guests went for it the next day. [Post edited 19 Jul 2024 16:33]

Yep. And just checked our 89/90 fixture list and indeed, we played at Plymouth on 31 March. My memory for things 30 or 40 odd years compared to something that happened yesterday is like night and day.

You and me both!!! The last two seasons have been amazing, but I’m not sure I’ll remember them as clearly as the late 80s / early 90s.

These scum? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/jul/19/how-unrest-in-leeds-esca 'On social media, an altogether different furore was breaking out as far-right groups mobilised against the Muslim residents of the neighbourhood, in particular the Harehills Green party councillor Mothin Ali – who, if social media was to be believed, was complicit in the disorder. The far-right antagonist Tommy Robinson claimed footage showed “the newly elected councillor for the area rioting tonight in Leeds. Multiple reports he’s even on the streets with them”. In fact, Ali was seen by dozens of people earlier in the evening intervening, in an attempt to calm the disorder and stop the attacks on police.'

Oh yes the ‘far right’ again! I don’t suppose it had anything to do with the Romanian and Roma community objecting to British agencies doing their job? Same in London Bangladeshi community rioting over something not even happening in this country! See the trend here? Probably not it will be the far rights fault as always.

Problem is too many right wing commentators spread disinformation as they try to quickly capitalise on this kind if disorder. Thus attracting attention and derision upon themselves and distracting from the actual problem. They would do their cause more good by being calm and measured and gathering some facts before commenting. But your main point is still correct - the 'far right' are not the cause of this kind of disorder and aside from online noise are not presenting much threat to anybody. Opposing voices find it easier to focus on the right than to address actual problems in British towns and cities like this.

I was actually referring to the Muslim scum taking an active role in restoring order to their community that the poster felt should have had the army imposed upon. Funny how he/she/they have jumped in to defend their political allies though.
