It did strike me as a little weird that the first team didn't have a friendly against a local side, as they have in previous years. Leiston could have been a good shout, following Needham and Felixstowe the last two summers.
Not much of a test, granted, but a good Community-minded exercise in terms of the income for the smaller local sides. | |

I didn't realise that but, at the same time, I got the feeling that the 'proper' local friendlies over the last two pre-seasons had been organised with benefiting Needham and Felixstowe in mind.
I know we're not obliged to give a pay-day to a local club every summer, but it strikes me as a decent thing to do. | |

The last few years it's been done at the end of the first week back and hasn't been anything other than a physical workout with a football. Not sure it was ever intended to be anything else. The fact that it was played this year but behind closed doors suggests the club feel there's still benefit to it.
Did hear there were insurance issues this year that stopped it being played publicly although no idea if that's accurate. [Post edited 30 Jul 2024 20:38]

They start this weekend so 2 weeks ahead of us.
