Yep. Rode from what was East Germany to West Germany. There is a cutting in the trees and even an old lookout where border guards would shoot anyone looking to escape the iron curtain.

That has always been a weird old feeling whenever I've been there; in particular being able to casually stroll along the death strip just north of Nordbahnhof where they have the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer installation running up Bernauer Straße.
I was born just too late (1988) to have been able to see/understand it as it happened, but I would love to somehow have the ability to go back to 1970s/80s Berlin and experience the city as it was back then. [Post edited 31 Jul 2024 15:45]

My partner is Eastern European and took part in protests just before the wall came down. She was a teenager at school and her teachers took her down to protest the evils of communist rule.
