Sarmiento on 13:46 - Aug 16 with 2881 views | SouperJim | Just my humble opinion, but he was predominantly an impact option/sub for us in the Championship, I don't think he's good enough for the premier league. If he was already our player I'm sure we'd happily make use of him, but I'm not surprised that it seems we haven't looked to try and sign him. He's very direct and that can sometimes make things happen, but there's not a great deal of depth to his game.

I actually think he's very talented and has the tenacity to go with it and go a long way. He looks to be well in the Brighton picture now and had a good pre-season so either way he looks to be playing prem football this season. Brighton are spending some cash though so could change. I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Yes i think he would be a nice option from the bench

Sarmiento on 14:13 - Aug 16 with 2623 views | Pendejo | Hasn't he been scoring goals for Brighton in pre-season, novel concept I know, but maybe they're planning to use him. So 14th September can see us serenading him at Amex

We aren't going to use one of our two domestic loan slots on someone who will only play 20 minutes each week.

I think we’re only allowed 2 loan signings from Prem clubs this year. With Phillips being one, it gives you an idea of the quality we’d ideally be getting for the 2nd

Yep I agree. I'm not saying Sarmiento is a bad player, sure he'd be a nice option to have on the bench and I'd be happy to see him back. But is he good enough to use up a domestic loan slot or splash 8 figures on? It's a no from me.

How much do you think it would be sensible to spend on someone who is essentially a luxury player? I would imagine Brighton would want a fair chunk of cash for him.

He would be an impact player to start with, but with more time with Kieran, I am sure he would develop into a starting X1 player in the PL. £15M + add ons.

I think his a hard working chaotic type of player , as for coming back May will depend on who we get in, in that position as we cannot be sentimental Hutchinson is the only one I wanted back ..

I respect your opinion, but paying anything like that sort of money for him would be nuts from where I'm sat. He did ok for us last season but we didn't pay much more than that for Omari and he's light years ahead of Sarmiento.

We have brought a few with development and sell on in mind. Wouldn't surprise me to see him leave Brighton with them just spending a few quid. If he is up for grabs, I would be more than happy for us to try and sign him. Brighton don't need to sell, but they do like a few quid back. Gilmour is available apparently, so they might consider letting a few others go. Not suggesting for one second that he is in our plans and about to sign, but I would happily bring him back. Just for the record, I respect everyone's opinions, so thank you.

If he's going to end up at Burnley, can't we just buy him and loan him to Burnley?

I really don't think he is a luxury player. My definition of a luxury player is someone who has an amazing skill-set but not someone you would think of when you hear "the team is more than the sum of its parts". While he is somewhat chaotic, Sarmiento would still make a massive contribution both going forwards and back. And I would reiterate that his trajectory while with us last season was definitely upwards - it is just that we only had him for a few months so it is unlikely we saw the best of him - unlike Hutch. I really think that he could rapidly become a very important player for us if we took him back.

I would also say the fact that he was 'somewhat chaotic' was one of his strengths, but I do agree he can't be one of our loans. So we would need to buy him, and how much would we want to spend on him? hhmmm £8m tops? [Post edited 16 Aug 2024 15:54]

I will forever remember his last minute goal against the Saints and am grateful for that moment. What ever happens, good luck to him and thanks.

Whilst I think the southampton "moment" probably inflates his overall impact I'd love to see him back. He improved immensely in his 6 months and there's definitely something about him.l, especially when chasing the game and the need to transform to 'chaos' mode. Whilst he might play for Ecuador he grew up in this country so he's basically English in culture, coming through the English academy systems, plus a spell at Benfica, so plenty of life experience. I do find it strange there's been no mention of him all summer, aside from the 5-aside he turned up for in May. If the budget permits would love to see him back, ideally permanent.
