Lots of talk about him playing off the left. Not for me, I'd want him central.

He's achieved what he has by playing central. Whenever I've watched him, he's played central too but likes to roam a bit.

I suspect he's here to provide competition with Chaplin although I'm interested to see other people's insights as to why he will be playing off the left?

Because Broadhead doesn't play as a left winger, but effectively in the pocket of space between Leif and Chaplin - which would be a good fit for Szmodics

Inside Left in "old money."

It will be the Broadhead role which is much more a second 10 with some off the ball responsibility on the left. With the ball it is not central and Davis provides the left width.

He may do the Chappers role also as see him ahead of Chaplin mid to long term.

100%.

If he plays regularly on the left it's because we haven't recruited our preferred first choice.

You want him within the width of the box. You don't want him playing neat build up play with Leif on the touchline. As pointed out Broadhead isn't an out and out winger himself but he still spends a lot of time out there during a game, and I think he's more of a technical keep ball type of player than SS. SS is a goalscorer.

Agree. I think quite a bit of the recruitment in the more attacking roles has also looked at having players who can play in multiple different roles. They may each have a primary role that if everyone is fit McKenna wants to use them in but there's lots of flexibility.

Looks like we're still recruiting for someone else who can play in the left sided ten role so we might end up with (in some semblance of order ).

L10 - A.Nother, Szmodics, Broadhead, Hutchinson, Harness
10 - Hutchinson, Chaplin, Szmodics, Harness
RW - Delap, Burns, Hutchinson, Harness

No 9 - Broja, Hirst, Delap

Given the number of in game rotations we make in those positions and the impact of injuries already you can see why we are stacking there and why we want people who can play in more than one role.

I wouldn't rule out Broja as a narrow inside forward on the right hand side on occasion.

He's a great ball carrier and has similar transitional attributes to Delap in that respect.

Our setup though is generally the left side is 'inside' so Davis can overlap, where as the right side typically hugs the touchline.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but I was talking about the fluidity/interchangeability of Hirst/Delap/Broja. You could have at least two of them on the pitch at the same time and still play the '1 up top' system McKenna prefers.

Chaplin is yet another one in that category of love him, but if he doesn't step up his fom he's vulnerable to losing a starting place

With the exception of Hirst, the rest can play anywhere across that 3 behind the striker.

I've always considered Broadhead and Chaplin as 10's really

So it's primarily central with some tertiary left wing assistance

Szmodics general operated on the left sided area for Blackburn in a similar kind of role any way?

Inevitable really that those that got us here are going to slowly be replaced, so either sold or from the bench. At least these first 2 games have given them the taste of life in the Premier League and will always have it in the memory bank. My fear was that they would all be replaced before a ball was kicked. The younger members will be given more time, but Chaplin, Burns, Edmundson, Burgess, Luongo, Harness and Ladapo are probably going to be replaced in the not so distant future. The club must always come first over sentiment. They are safe for this season, but after that, reckon most if not all will be replaced. (Ladapo probably this season)
