Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 10:17 - Aug 22 by TRUE_BLUE123 | I feel like I have been transported in to a different universe. Clarke is clearly a better player than Sarmiento |
Yeah, there's no contest right now. Sarmiento couldn't make an impact in starting XIs, yet Clarke is capable of scoring and assisting double figure amounts as a guaranteed starter.

Precisely. Playing in what was a poor Sunderland team last year and he missed games through injury he scored 15 times, could've quite easily been 20. His dribbling stats are fantastic he creates for those around in so many different ways.

Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 10:10 - Aug 22 by ReusersTown | Delap is 21 and has just left City. Clarke is nearly 24 and has already had one failed venture in the Prem. By what logic is should he be worth more than Delap? |
Their respective impact last season? Delap eight goals and two assists across 31 appearances (0.25/0.06 per game); Clarke 15 goals and four assists across 40 appearances (0.48/0.1 per game). He had a greater impact. I do appreciate age plays a part, hence we were able to get Szmodics for less, but I do think simply signing Delap from City increased his fee, rather than anything he's done to date on the pitch.

Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 07:44 - Aug 22 by ibbleobble | Anyone can scrape the web and regurgitate stats. My question is, what makes him better and triple the value of Sarmiento? Apples and Oranges comparing Clarke’s stats to Sarmiento’s given he’s had several consistent seasons and game time at Sunderland. |
Clarke is better at carrying the ball. He drives forward with pace and control. He's one of the absolute best in the Championship at it, alongside taking on and beating a defender. Sarmiento was one of our best carriers last season but he isn't at Clarke's level. It's the chief difference for me; Sarmiento's finishing compares pretty well. Greedily it would be great to see both here. If better and faster PL fullbacks are able to handle Clarke's dribbling quality then that would be his key strength severely undermined. He's hardly faced PL opposition in his career, so it's difficult to know if he'd retain an edge against the average defender in this league, but there's nobody left in the Championship who I'd give a better chance of doing so. As for price, Jeremy feels the value pick but it rather hinges on whether Clarke could consistently have the measure of his RB. If yes then that would be a huge advantage to us. Jeremy isn't going to be beating set defenders on the wing regularly, so to acquire this attribute may well cost double or triple.

Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 07:54 - Aug 22 by tractorboy1978 | I really like Sarmiento but I just think Clarke is more oven ready. He's a couple of years further on in his development and proven he is a top Championship player. You can't just dismiss the stats. |
Sarmiento is already up to speed with the playstyle and squad. He would make a big contribution from the bench. Clarke could take a while to bed in and he's going into a new environment. Obviously, it's not my call, but I can see some considerations there. I'm also biased towards players I know and Sarmiento has such a good song that he even sang it himself!

Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 10:07 - Aug 22 by Europablue | He has a better record, it doesn't necessarily make him a better player. It probably makes him more valuable. Sarmiento might have more value to us if he comes in as a finisher whereas maybe Clarke will be expecting to start. |
This very much has the air of he's 28 until he's 29 about it. Clarke has shown himself to be effective for a sub par team. Sarmiento scored some important goals for us but struggled to affect games where he started. Lets not forget that Clarke was playing well enough for a £10m move at 18 so 3 or 4 years young than Jez is now. I was genuinely surprised when I saw that Brighton have £7m on him, he's a huge risk at that, Looking at other Championship signings I can't see him higher than £2/£3m.

Ipswich make Jack Clarke bid on 08:32 - Aug 22 by portmanking | Looking at Clarke's output, I think you're being very harsh to say he's half the player of D-H. Clarke is someone who contributes assists *and* goals, whereas D-H is very much a creator-in-chief (albeit a very strong year in second tier goal-wise last season). Gabriel Sara allegedly went for around £18m and Clarke's data is similar (and he's younger). We also deemed Philogene worthy of £18m and Clarke's data surpasses Jaden's in the last couple of years, so it's easy to see why they'd want £18m-£20m up front IMO - and that's before you factor in his importance to the Sunderland team who'll lose their star man. I don't think anyone would argue that Gabriel Sara is a better buy than Jack Clarke. It doesn't seem to matter as much as it used to, but if Clarke is on the last year of his contract, that should be a big reason why Clarke's value should be much reduced.

You are talking about the Championship. I just think that Sarmiento off the bench may be better for the team than a starter who ahs to get up to speed. Btw, I think that 7 million and 15 million are both fair valuations. Sarmiento has a lot of potential that we didn't realize and he has a great song. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

His current contract runs until 2026.
