A slight concern about the lack of Premier League experience, Phillips apart, but we've signed a lot of good players with a potential upside. Now we need a couple of good early results to get some points down.

I’d expected a couple of prem experienced players - though Philips exceeded my expectation. I’d be a little more comfortable if we’d got another with his experience. I’m looking forward to seeing what KM does with the squad he’s pulled together.

To date, the positions we’ve targeted is more or less in line, perhaps I didn’t really expect RB and GK. Didn’t really know Clarke would not make the start of season and probably thought Vas would seal a deal. In terms of the quality of player we’ve targeted, this has been over expectations in some not all. I thought we would realistically target top end Championship, PL ready players. Age profile perhaps a little younger than expect, but the Muric, Phillips, Szmodics deals are adding experience. If we do finally seal Broja and Clarke (and Anel) we have gone way over expectation. I have faith in KMck to quickly shape this group over next 4-8 weeks as he quickly did at the lower level on his arrival, this time he has higher quality players, they will learn quickly and the hope is they will execute at the level and consistency we need to be competitive in the PL. I think the problem is that people thought they knew that our spend was 70-80 million. So every time we signed a player they would deduct the amount from that total and tell us how much we have left. Let’s be honest. Nobody bloody knows. And why would we?

But I think the way we've spent it has been hugely impressive. The vast majority are coming in to make an instant impact, whilst still having room to improve and with genuine resale value.

Of course you could argue that there is a little shortage of Premier League experience, but in the current (ridiculous) market what would that cost us? If our signings are enough to survive is hard to say, but no one can say we haven´t been ambitious and at least given it a good go.
Has this window now surpassed your expectations? on 09:53 - Aug 23 with 957 views | ghostofescobar | Shows you what I know, and perhaps how scarred I am through following the town for over 50 years, but I said to my son earlier in the summer that I couldn’t see us signing Omari as there would be no way we’d spend anything like £20mill on one player! I also said I’d be amazed if we spent anything close to £40mill on a squad rebuild! How out of touch I am, but glad I am as well! I think our signings have been exceptional. I don’t mean this to sound negative, but I also wonder whether many of the players we have signed are with half an eye on relegation, as they will be ready to go and storm the championship next season.
