£25m for a striker with 6 goals in 44 apps for Burnley is madness 23:53 - Aug 27 with 6355 views | Matt_Netherlands | I’d love to be wrong about this but no matter how you look at it, the potential purchase amount is absolutely bonkers. I completely understand that our centre forwards aren’t expected to be 25 goal a season poachers, but you’re telling me this isn’t better options out there in this price bracket?! If you’d told anyone two years ago we’d be spending this much on a player like that, you’d be laughed out of the room. He might be the missing piece of the jigsaw, but I worry this could be an expensive risk. In Kieran we trust and all that, I just hope this isn’t a panic buy*

£25m for a striker with 6 goals in 44 apps for Burnley is madness on 07:59 - Aug 28 by Asa | That is just the cost of being in the Premier League though and what people seem to be missing is that we are not immune to that. Foster scored 6 goals in a Burnley side that didn't do very well and went down. There's a case to say he scores 10-15 goals if he's in a side that's in the top half of the table based on his stats, shots, conversions etc. That is very much £20m - £25m these days. Look at Solanke's stats from a few years back. He's now worth £65m. McKenna and Ashton haven't got much wrong so far. Foster cost £11m last summer and by all accounts did very well in the Premier League. He is immediately worth £20m or so as a result of that. By contrast, what people are missing is that if Hirst banged in 10 goals this season and we went down, he'd be worth £18m - £20m. That is how it goes. So yes it's utterly bonkers. Football is insane as it is money wise. When you've been away for 20 years and were taking £100k punts on Ahadme two years back even more so. But the difference here is that if Foster signs for £20m and then does very little, the chances are he's still worth £12m - £15m by the time we want to offload him. Look at what Burnley are getting for players. Hamer is off to Leeds for £18m. Look at what players left Leeds for this summer. We are now in that world where even if we go down, our best performers will be moving on themselves for £20m, £30m, £40m. |
25m is clearly over paying. 15m plus add ons seems reasonable so let's hope that's the actual figure.
£25m for a striker with 6 goals in 44 apps for Burnley is madness on 08:11 - Aug 28 with 1531 views | Len_Brennan | If we are in genuine talks wih Burnley over signing him, but with an OPTION to buy him for £25m if/when we stay up, would that take away all the fear & head-scratching? To me, that would make sense, as we can't pay big money up front, however would be able to afford his Premier League wages, which are probably an issue for Burnley now, so there is a benefit in it for them to let him go on loan. If he does well & we stay up, we have an option; if he doesn't do well or if we go down there is no onus on us. I'd be amazed, especially seeing how we have held off on the Broja (our #1 target) deal, if we were to agree a deal here with an OBLIGATION to buy for £25m.
£25m for a striker with 6 goals in 44 apps for Burnley is madness on 08:35 - Aug 28 with 1437 views | BloomBlue | £25m is beyond crazy. Burnley failed in so many areas last season especially in the attack area, that's why they (plus Luton & Sheff U) were relegated. Nketiah played for an Arsenal team pushing for top 6 and he's going for roughly the same price. Not saying he won't improve, but it indicates we've hit our financial limit and need a striker who now fits the 'push the cost down the road with an obligation to buy later' model rather this is the player we want. Trouble with that approach is your at the mercy of the selling club and you'll get examples of the selling club getting £25m for a player worth £10m.

Yep. When does improving the squad turn into a bloated group? It’s starting to feel too much.

Broja doesn't seem to be the answer. He is out for 7 weeks and we don't know how long he will need to get up to speed. He would need to be fit for a certain percentage of matches to make a buy clause acceptable.

To further put into context how ridiculous £25m is / would be…. Man City payed £20m for Savinho who is a starter for them and absolutely tore us a new one at the weekend West Ham paid £20m for Niclas Fulbright who got 12 goals and 8 assists in the bundesliga last season and started for Germany in the euros. We’re undoubtedly paying a premier here for a UK based player who has played in the PL. Joel Piroe would cost less and is in a similar sort of quality bracket | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Man City signed Savinho from a club under the same ownership group Niclas Fullkrug was £27m and is 31 and didn't start any games for Germany in the Euros Piroe isn't even starting for Leeds at the moment and totally lacks mobility required in the PL

One thing thats hard to calculate is the value of money in 2024. Since 2020 the value of our currency has devalued by over 30%. This is why house prices look high. So £8m winger is what would appear to be £5m winger, £25m striker is what would appear £18m. Not a justification just a financial aspect.
