Remember Richard Naylor ? 02:30 - Aug 31 with 1821 viewswarky_1970

Richard started out as a striker before finding his place as a no nonsense CB. Yet when required such as the Play Off Final, stepped up and played CF off the bench.

Do we have a player in defence or midfield able to do that when required ? If so who ?

Have you seen Burgess take penalties….?

Failing that, Oli Hawkins must be without a club surely?!

Perhaps we can ask Dion Dublin to come out of retirement.

A better example is Ian Marshall who actually started as a defender and ended up a striker. A good one too ...

Mick Stockwell played all over the place and fitted kichens too..Warky became a great defender ...didn't Scowcroft do a bit of defence and attack ?

The goalie seems able to create goals out of nothing.

Utility players seem a thing of the past

Reckon Burns or Harry Clarke could do a job up front

This is why I would have liked Elkan Baggott not yo have gone out on loan..... that boy is a great strong intelligent footballer who I'm sure could have been turned around so to speak and played in exactly the role that we found for Hirst.... And if he scored a couple of goals up there imagine the Indonesian wonga that would have come flooding into the Planet Blue accounts!

He started out as a midfielder at Leeds in their youth team I think. Good player was Naylor - technically much better than people thought.

He reverted to centre half under Joe Royle, a long time after the play off final.

Clarke started out as a striker, and scored tons for Brantham. Only after he was in Arsenal's academy for a couple of seasons did he get moved back. I. sure he could do a job.

Wark was also played up front for a while under John Duncan. Wasn't great, scoring a couple of penalties made the statistics look better. Thankfully only lasted a few games, no wonder he left for Boro.
