Ioannidis starts up front for... on 20:31 - Sep 10 by Guthrum
Nearly a screamer from Ogbene, but just offside.
Looking more confident tonight, post the English match HH said the players need more confidence to keep playing and taking shots/crosses. Ogbene is doing just this not driving forward and then checking back.
Ireland are looking a bit better but still think the formation isn't working we don't have strong enough midfielders.

Lovely goal. I’m convinced we’ve missed a gem (not from want of trying). He looks the mutt’s nuts to me and is the sort of player to make a huge difference to the season.
But as I mentioned earlier, the silver lining is Delap gets more game time to develop. I’m happy with that but it feels a bit like second best. I don’t mean that negatively towards Delap, who’s got buckets of potential. Just that Ioannidis, Delap and Hirst would be a cracking striker dept for us.

No reason why we can’t go back in for him in January.

A Fotis Finish for sure!
I didn't enjoy the way Kelleher kind of jumped unconvincingly, diagonally, with his arms by his side.
Kind of reminded me how the outfield players used to jump aimlessly in Emlyn Hughes International Soccer on the Commodore 64!
Uppie for the C64 reference.
I'd need to watch the replay a couple of times, it looked to me thar Kelleher thought it was going wide and it didn't. Perhaps having 2 CBs not engaging unsighted him? I really rate Kelleher if there was a chance to sign him at some stage....

Which is odd considering the pace O'Shea has. From an ITFC perspective Ogbene and Szmodics have been our best players.
But O'Shea appears a bit lost in the system imho. Doesn't help when you have no midfield.
True re the midfield, but one of the defenders had to go out there quickly and close him down. Great finish, but he was given far too much space and time by the ROI defence

Balls! Once again Ireland come apart at the seams.
I get we don't have the players anymore but stupid mistakes cost us.
Ogbene and Szmodics look good and a threat.
O'Shea suffering from no structure or midfield. But still I'm not sure O'Shea is settled in what he is doing if that makes sense.
Smallbone is a decent player but out of position and chasing things.
The Irish manager has a lot to do, and this squad needs ripping up.
Time for Ireland to rip it up and rebuild from scratch thanks Delaney and the FAI!
I HATE INTERNATIONAL WINDOWS!
It's the basics the defenders are failing at that would worry me (if I was an Irish fan)
The 1st goal, irrelevant of the midfield, a defender should go out to the striker to close them down, that's basic defending. That's is where you would assume O'Shea's pace would come into play.
2nd goal is poor defending, nobody goes with the runner.
Same with the England goals, poor basic defending

Agreed as I'm trying to calm down. Two prem CBs didn't react to close the striker down and let Ioannidis take a shot with no pressure at all. (PS. Watching the replay it was a great finish, Kelleher had no chance dipping shot right over him)
As for the 2nd goal, Matt Doherty needs to buy Collins an Audi for leaving him totally beached while Matt was jogging back. Not sure where Doherty's head is but he wouldn't make it into my 5 aside team! Pathetic defending.
Rip it all up and start again, need HH to stamp his mark on this squad. The ITFC trio were are best players....
