Next 6 games.. how many points? 00:15 - Sep 16 with 4464 views | The_Romford_Blue | Next 6 for us: - Southampton (a) - Villa (h) - West Ham (a) - Everton (h) - Brentford (a) - Leicester (h) I’m going win at Southampton. And home wins to Everton and Leicester. And a point at Brentford and West Ham. And a decent enough home draw with Villa. So 12 points. 3 wins, 3 draws and suddenly we’re unbeaten in 8 games and mckennas being linked with the now vacant Man U job. Uppa Towen

Next 6 games.. how many points? on 10:15 - Sep 16 by DinnernotTea | What could kill us is that I can't see any player getting into double figures for goals in that squad. If we can be above the bottom 3 or worst case within say 6 points of 17th come January then that we might he able to get a bonafide Prem goalscorer in (far easier said than done). |
We've certainly not created a lot so far, but then we were unlikely to against Liverpool, and away at City and Brighton. We counter attacked reasonably well but even then our decision making and execution at times has been a little wasteful. I thought we showed a bit more against Fulham, but certainly we'll want to be more imposing in games against the less fancied sides and have more of the ball and build sustained pressure. Be really interesting to see how the next 6 go as the group gets up to speed and we face off against sides we can potentially ask a lot more questions of ourselves.

This stuff is usually meaningless but the fact Southampton have a long trip to Merseyside during the week might help us. I know Prem players especially are freaks of nature with fitness etc, but if you're a Southampton player and you lose 2-0 up there that mentally could take its toll on Saturday. Whereas, Kieran having 5 straight days as one huge group is huge for us given what a genius he and his staff are on the training ground. Again could be meaningless but to stay up even a 1% advantage we need to take!

Agreed. We need to improve that decision making when we open teams up because we won't have multiple opps like we've been accustomed to. Think KM said the same recently. Clarke had one on Saturday where I think he should have either shot or squared to Hirst.

Yeah I think the time on the training ground is the biggest thing, especially as we're integrating so many new players into the squad. They're like mini pre seasons having full training weeks which a lot of clubs don't have due to domestic or European cup commitments. Southampton won't be thinking about our game until Wednesday having got home in the early hours, where as we've got full training weeks coming up.

There was a Delap one on Saturday too (I think) where he broke into the Brighton 3rd and his ball out to the right was intercepted by van Hecke. Chances like that you need to make more of, it was a relatively straight forward pass that he shouldn't have given van Hecke any chance on.

Next 6 games.. how many points? on 10:10 - Sep 16 by DinnernotTea | By hook or by crook just get to 38 points, I think that will be enough. Or get to 10 wins should be enough overall. I knew the level was huge but shocked me just how good every single team is. I watched Wolves Newcastle and Wolves completely dominated and looked really good for 70 minutes. Even Everton are scoring for fun for instance. Southampton first 30 v Man U outclassed them. Going to be some effort to finish 17th but McKenna is a God so who knows. |
Yep. We look fairly comfortable in this division so far but the fact is that at least 18 other teams do too. I think a lot of our games will be pretty tight and it will be a case of can we find the goals quickly enough. It's going to be very difficult and might be a front we'll fall short on.

Understandably perhaps, we don’t seem to have that telepathic understanding in the final third that we had last season yet. I noticed during the Fulham game how many times that ball in behind for Ogbene was on and we just didn’t see it or play it. The sort of ball that Chaplin plays blind knowing Burns will be on the shoulder. There was another couple of occasions on Saturday where we had the chance to play the type of ball for Burns that Omari provided vs Coventry away last season as well. It’ll come hopefully. We don’t need to be particularly precise or intricate with it. Ogbene and Burns will cause big problems for any fullback if we can get the ball into space behind him. [Post edited 16 Sep 2024 11:10]

There was an example between Tuanzebe and Ogbene that resulted in AT lobbing a cross into the 6 yard box but was quite untidy and far from fluid. We became very used to Burns getting in behind his left back or Davis in behind the right back and those cut backs to Chaplin etc 6-10 yards out. It comes through repetition and familiarity, I think that will come, but then its also harder to get out of your own half away at City and Brighton vs. Millwall and Preston. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
