Where did the line up thread go? (n/t) on 09:33 - Sep 21 by MK1

People post their line ups on here all the time though. What made this poster so special? How do we know that they are actually in the know? If I claim to have inside knowledge of McKenna's mind, is anyone actually going to believe me? I might get lucky a few times with the line up, but I wouldn't expect a professionally run football club to take my word for it. More fool them if they did. Russell Martin will not be sat at his desk now reading TWTD and picking his line up accordingly. It might explain why he is such a cr@p manager, but come on. Like I said early, I think people need to lighten up a little.

If it is was the same poster as last week then they correctly stated Woolfenden would be dropped and Burns was returning. Most of us thought the former would be given the nod after his strong performance against Fulham, and Burns wouldn't be ready to start. So, once the line up was announced, they were given credence - and a warning from Phil.

Any advantage is a plus. Knowledge a certain player is playing or absent 24 hours can help planning. I'll preface this by saying I did not see the assumed line up yesterday so, if I'm "right" it's sheer luck, but say Davis is missing through injury and Townsend starts - that'll change the way we play from the off and Southampton would have more time to plan if they knew about this yesterday compared to today. And, in the modern world, I wouldn't be surprised if top tier clubs didn't have social media scouts combing the net for any perceived advantage they could get. Big money and big stakes are involved.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

First game of the season a Pompey kid on twitter revealed that Walton was starting in place of Muric and Tuanzebe instead of Johnson. It was then mentioned by a couple that we have an 'open secret' leak inside the club and personnel change news has since been very reliable on a Friday, as you say (presumably the team is announced that morning to allow players to be as prepared as possible). Good on Phil for keeping that info off this site, but I hope the issue may be sorted at the club's end soon so fans may return to normal lineup threads.

I only shared my def info about us going 2 at the back and with Burgess in goal but it got deleted because it might get Phil in trouble.

I realise that this might be fatal to this thread, but I'm feeling bolshie atm, so what the 'eck (and apologies Phil). Any Southampton spies, look away now, but my sources tell me that this will be the line up this afternoon:

Slicker
H Clarke
Donacien (after signing a special 24-hour contract)
Edmundson (recalled from loan)
Chambers (back from retirement at the behest of Mach)
Humphreys (recalled from loan)
Harness (recalled from loan)
El Mizouni (special "give back" clause triggered)
Harper (after KMcK realises his mistake in letting him go)
Norwood (after KMcK realises his mistake in letting him go)
Pitman (after Mick McCarthy realises his mistake in letting him go)
Farkenhell (wrong side of 50 and with dodgy knees and back, but always fancied a go)

Yes, I know it's 12, but whisper it quietly. And don't shoot the messenger!

COYB!

As I've said twice already - 'my line up' and 'the line up' are two different things.

Not going to argue any more but check at 1.45pm and see how accurate the information was and if it was beneficial to ITFC that being out in the public domain.

So how accurate was their prediction?

It was spot on. Including the fact that Wolfie had been dropped and that Burns was straight back in after injury.

Could only have come from inside knowledge.

The Brighton line up thread was correct. I didn't see the one posted for Southampton, but someone else said it was wrong.

The Delap injury intel was bad and the rest of it was a ruse, so no repeat of previous fixtures I'm pleased to report.

It’s a well known fact that opposition teams have an army of intel analysts who trawl football fan forums quantifying variables and feedback/recommend team selection and tactics based on said conclusions.

Rumour has it that there was a blazing row in Southampton's backroom staff about Israel and Palestine last week.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Do they actually know though? I reckon McKenna has probably woken up this morning to the news that somebody hasn't come through training as they hoped they would, or alike. The line up can change many times between 12 noon on a Friday and 2pm on a Saturday. I think people are really over exaggerating if they think Southampton will base their line up and tactics based on something they read on here. I hope they are and would maybe go someway to explaining their terrible form under Martin, but come on.

Well didn't Biellsa get rumbled while at Leeds for spying on Derby. So who knows lot goes on.
