Bruno Fernandes red card over turned. on 19:54 - Oct 1 with 1017 views | LeoMuff | It was an awful decision and sums up the premier league, barely tapped him on the shin pad and he is rolling around screaming like his legs snapped, team mates wading in like it was a leg breaker, ridiculous. Ex pros saying it was dangerous in the press (Nigel Reo Coker) when it clearly wasn’t. Then VAR - plain as day wasn’t a red but nothing doing.

I think that's only true if the VAR disagreed with the ref and didn't do anything about it - it's a subjective decision - I personally don't think it was a red but pundits disagreed on it at the time so no reason to believe that refs wouldn't disagree about it either. The alternative would almost certainly have been an extended pause in play while VAR looked at all the angles and then called the ref over to the monitor. Fans keep saying this is something that they don't want. I personally don't think it matters what form of VAR or no VAR we end up with there will still be decisions that people disagree with !

I'm confused that no one has publicly called out Maddison, that I've seen. It's a travesty of a decision and it definitely reduced the quality of the game, despite it obviously being fun to watch United continue to be rubbish. But referees are human. In real time from certain angles it looked a bit malicious and high, like the Stephens' red card for Soton against United, which wasn't really disputed. I can see why he might make a snap decision it was a bad tackle, but a lot of that will have been based on Maddison's pathetic reaction - and for him to then be BF's best mate as he's walking off telling him he's unlucky. Could he perhaps not play act to get him sent off in the first place?

Fernandes caught him midway up his leg. Agree some mitigation as Fernandes slipped when attempting the tackle but he still went for it. For one I was quite happy to see him sent off as while a quality player for me he epitomises what is wrong with Manure. Why he was made Captain I have no idea!

Fernandes slipped, which made the tackle look reckless if you saw it once at normal speed. But yes, overturning decisions like this was one of the main purposes of VAR. I suppose Fernandes won't be punished for his refusal to leave the field, which is becoming all too common these days.

It's probably a case of the best player getting the armband, because he is quite comfortably their best. He's petulant but most of their good play goes through him. Unfortunately he doesn't mind play acting himself at times, most of them are as bad as each other in that sense. Apart from him being unlikable to a lot of people, it was never deserving of a red card.

Indeed. Great player and has really dragged his teams through games in the past (for Sporting Lisbon too). We've been spoiled with Morsy as our captain.
