My attempt at a positive twist on things...... 15:01 - Oct 20 with 2048 viewspetieboy2011

Ok so I may be clutching at straws here but here goes.

I was fuming after yesterdays game. I can take the defeat but the way we lost was so bad and thats what hurt the most.

Lots of people have tried to calm the tension and anger from yesterday and rightly so, afterall we are only 8 games in.

So yes 3 points lost yesterday against a perceived relegation rival, BUT who really expected us to get a point away at Brighton or at home to Villa. Add to that the point we snatched from the jaws of defeat at Southampton and there are 3 points we may not have predicted to get.

I guess what im saying is that this is football and anything can happen. Who predicted Bournemouth to beat Arsenal yesterday for example. We will pick up points in games we wouldnt expect to, and drop points in games we would expect to get points from - HOWEVER I appreciate that the performances will have to improve from the last two games, especially yesterday - but I trust in McKenna. Injuries to key players havent helped but try and keep the faith folks.

We shouldn't treat points against Brighton and Villa as shock results.

We have been in the lead for a total of 29 minutes this season, and haven't led any later than the 32nd minute.

It's not just that we haven't got a win.... we haven't even threatened to win.

I think we definitely threatened to win against Villa. Which is why it hurts so much we have looked so poor and have given away such soft goals in the last couple of games. On paper, Villa are much better than West Ham and Everton.

Absolutely agree with villa and Brighton. But southampton the performance and the result was poor. Can't dress that one up.

What pains me is the performance v villa to what we've seen since.

a niche perspective

"BUT who really expected us to get a point away at Brighton or at home to Villa"

I did, especially Villa, and by the same token there was always a chance Everton would rock up and beat us. In hindsight it was more likely a physical team like them would beat us than someone like Villa.

We'll play better against better teams at times. But there are a few things to sort out. Injuries aren't helping.

Not if we play like yesterday we won't....

Good post.

My two pence to add would be:

- My main concern coming up was that it would be a massacre every week and utterly depressing. It has been anything but - we've been competetive in every game including City. The games swing on fine margins - yesterday a good example, Clarke misses a sitter, Burns makes a howler a few mins later and that's the game. Those fine margins could turn at some point.

- Whatever happens, even if we go back down, the boost to revenues and our ability to upgrade infrastructure will have been worth it even if we finish bottom (I dont think we will). And the playing squad we've amassed will be very competitive in the Champ next season even if the worst happens.

This time last year, of the bottom 4, 3 went on to be relegated.
KMs in unchartered territory in that it is far easier to motivate (or keep motivated) a team that’s consistently winning and top the the table than one in the position we’re in now.
However in terms of assets and despite the £100m spent in Summer, we have the lowest value team in the league but we still top the bottom 4.
We’re going to lose far more than we win and it’s going to be tough to keep out of the danger zone, but looking at the teams around us and perhaps with a boost in January I think we’ve got a good chance of staying up…

Villa and Fulham games would contradict that.

We had the lead for a few minutes early in the match, and equalised fairly late on.

We've never been in a winning position in the second half even.

Because we were pushing for the win in both and looked the more likely.

You truly think we've been competitive every game? Sorry, that's nonsense. Liverpool and Man City toyed with us and could have ripped us a massive asshole anytime they decided to up their game. Liverpool just needed a 10 minute spell to win the game.

The last 2 games we weren't in any shape competitive. Both West Ham and Everton won easily and could afford to take the foot of the pedal and ease to victory.

Sorry, these games haven't been about fine margins. Apart from the mistakes, we've been outplayed. It's not mistakes or fine margins. Muric actually saved us from a hammering yesterday.

Look, I understand people want to put positive twists on this, but we were nowhere near losing by "fine margins".

Good post. We are clearly not firing on all cylinders yet, we’re still very much learning and adapting to the league that we have propelled ourselves to and there are still Three teams worse off.

Blue tinted glasses I think.

We looked like we 'might' get a goal, is not like being ahead with 10 mins left.

There was nothing positive at all about either performance or result . Also I detected McKenna never spoke or looked that assured or confident I did say at half time he would make no substitutes till after 60 minutes which is very predictable. I feel maybe we have lost our mojo at the moment
