If O’Shea is injured … 21:00 - Nov 1 with 5046 viewsAVJones

Play Woolfenden then !

Find that bit of the press conference a bit odd.

What a strange debate. Basically over the word severe. Of course McKenna won't play o Shea if he's too injured, of course he'd play Wolfenden if he needed to. McKenna's the one with the information and made the decision based on it. Trying to pick apart McKenna's words and then use them to say McKenna made a questionable decision is bizarre. It's only severe because he used that word in a press conference, it's not some sort of legal definition.

There's never really been any pressing since Ashton came in. We know that's changed. Keep everyone in check etc. There's been plenty of opportunities despite the success to be able press on certain things and it just doesn't happen now.

Probably a good thing yes. But also its not normal for local journos not to be able to ask certain questions in fear they upset the head master.

You see some of the other questions put to managers across various clubs and our local journo questions are no where near as intrusive.

Personally think a lot of that is just down to how open and extensive McKenna seems to be in his answers.

Think it's a bit disrespectful to the journalistic integrity of people like Phil and Stu Watson to suggest they're somehow 'under control'.

Had this whole chat before no need to revisit it.

When the pressing questions get asked I'll be on board with you. Until then I'm comfortable with my view on it.

a niche perspective

I disagree on the lack of pressing questions. The one on Muric yesterday for example.

And you don't want to revisit it but you're the one who brought it up!

That was me, as was the Kalvin Phillips rumours question after the Brentford game incidentally. The O'Shea thing didn't really strike me as odd as players play with knocks or aches and pains so regularly, and it was an injury we knew about as he'd spoken about it before after O'Shea had come off with an injury with the Republic of Ireland. A manager may feel a player is the best option even if he is playing through a bit of pain.

KM is data driven. He wants some speed at the heart of defence. I suspect its as simple as that.

And some physical presence in the box, heading ability, tackling ability, etc

I think he’s just giving credit to O’Shea for playing through an injury.

I suppose the injury may be very minor, and maybe the only reason he mentioned it was to remind us quite the extent of the bad luck he's had with injuries and the constraints he's operating within. All of which I totally appreciate.

It's a hard hard task to thrive in this league, and he certainly needs to know that the fans are 100% behind him. The travelling fans at Brentford were AMAZING and I really don't want to detract from that at all. Just interested in the reasoning rather than anything else.

I'm not an expert but I suspect some injuries will cause more damage if you play with them and some don't, and this would fall into the latter category.

I dunno. I reckon KM will go for Johnson. Guy needs to play and if he's fit he'll slot in there i think.

I'm now finding myself unable to join in this debate as I know the leaked team (which may or may not be correct of course)
