Trying to put it in perspective but... 21:38 - Nov 2 with 4555 views | Edmundo | I can't help coming back to the conclusion that we aren't welcome in the Prem. The corruption has shown with Leicester getting away with their financial shenanigans, paving the way for all 103 charges against Man City coming to nothing. Meanwhile we are toeing the line, and will probably have to grovel to get Cat 1 academy status from the quango that awards such things. And don't get me started on referees: no difference between them and the clowns that reffed the L1 nonsense (e.g. Wycombe 2019). Anyone else sniff corruption and the desperate desire for a closed shop Premier League?

Regardless of all these ‘conspiracy’ theories, we need to accept we just haven’t been good enough at times this season. There have been occasions when we’ve been the architects of our own downfall in games. Yes, the officiating should be of a higher standard with VAR, however we need to be better too.

Trying to put it in perspective but... on 22:09 - Nov 2 by N2_Blue | AM i the only one that doesn't really think it was a penalty. I mean if that was given agaisnt us i'd be seething. SUre it could have been given, but i think it would have been quite soft |
The guy made absolutely no attempt whatsoever to play the ball, he played the man, 100% penalty all day long.

Especially given the ridiculously inconsistent decisions week in week out. Layer in the fact that some of these clubs are now literally owned by countries and you can see the potential for “shenanigans” is there. I’d also note that certain refs supplementing their income by reffing games in gulf states during their downtime isn’t a great look either…(gulf states that also happen to own premier league teams that is). Trying to put it in perspective but... on 21:51 - Nov 2 by Swansea_Blue | Because a lot of the laws require subjective interpretation. We aren’t the first and won’t be the last to think we’re hard done by. Leicester will no doubt feel both those big decisions today were correct. |
And I don't think it's willful corruption, but VAR is sh1t and favours the teams/clubs the quango want to flog their brand and product. It's soft corruption, let us say, and I don't think it's too strong a word seeing as it's meant to be a competitive sport where prowess and skill and determination of the people actually playing should be the be all and end all.

I think the referee and VAR gnomes agree with you. And anyone with a basic understanding of football and its subjective laws.

Indeed, and in most industries in the UK there is soft corruption, whereby politicians and public office folks get jobs in industries and companies with strong lobbying power. It's par for the course, and what you describe is no different. It doesn't have to involve bungs and brown envelopes, and such goings on in any "third world" country would be described as corruption in the UK media. EDIT: It's about integrity, and I see little of that with regard the Prem. [Post edited 3 Nov 2024 9:31]

There is no way that penalty doesn't get given at the Kop End at Anfield.
