The op will no doubt claim these actions were legitimate criticism of Israel.

Surprised they've widely been badged as football fights - Ajax generally a Jewish/Israel supportive club so would have thought it was just other people clashing in central Amsterdam.
Will be interesting to see what happens in Paris next week for France v Israel, hopefully this doesn't embolden idiots on either side.

It was nothing to do with Ajax fans. They were ambushed after the match by Arab gangs.

Isreali football teams should be banned from civilised international sporting events til their ultra nationalist right wing government refrain from committing ethnic cleansing

Strangely the Mail is reporting it as being instigated by hooded Israeli's tearing down a Palestinian flag and attacking Muslim taxi drivers!!
To use one of GB's favourite phrases...did some football hooligans FAFO?
[Post edited 8 Nov 2024 12:22]
Video I have seen shows Israelis chanting F**k F**k Palestine, while others rip down a Palestinian flag. Also reported that they were chanting anti Arab stuff inside the stadium.

Talking of ultras, and then they went and smashed up some taxis. Never f@#k about with the taxi drivers.

Still doing your thing I see GB. Barely veiled accusations of antisemitism, despite the OP making no mention of the violence in Amsterdam whatsoever. Yet again, you've put a suggestion against what you are sure the OP must be thinking? You really should stop doing that if you want to be taken seriously.
You also seem to have drawn up conclusions as to who did what to who last night - maybe we should wait for an investigation or more details?

What a surprising deflection of my post . You probably intended to reply to a different post as I did not mention anything about Amsterdam.
You are clearly inputting your own bias and reenforcing the 'opposition to Israel is antisemetic' narrative.
A bit like the Israeli ambassador to Irelend's inability to accept that Isreal has any culpability in the destruction of Palestine and the Palestinian people.
As for the completely different topic of Amsterdam, where did I claim these actions were legitimate criticism of Israel? Also for a bit of balance on the situation in there, from The Guardian, 'Incidents on both sides' 24 hours before match, Amsterdam police say
The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, has announced tighter security measures including a temporary ban on protests, reports AFP.
Amsterdam officials said earlier that “riot police had to intervene several times, protect Israeli supporters and escort them to hotels” during violent clashes after a football game between home team Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The clashes had begun on Wednesday, 24 hours before the match. According to AFP, police spokesperson Peter Holla said there had been “incidents on both sides” on Wednesday night.
He added:
Maccabi supporters removed a flag from a facade on the Rokin and they destroyed a taxi. A Palestinian flag was set on fire on the Dam.”

“ it's anti-Israel not antisemitism”
I hope you have raised this with the Mayor of Amsterdam, who the BBC quoted as saying there has been a ‘terrible outburst of antisemitism’.
That said this probably deserves its own thread, as not necessarily relevant to the OP.
It was me that changed tack but a post about antisemitism appeared as good a place to post it as any other, given I couldn't track down GB's long thread about the topic.
As it is, I take my lead on this from the IHRA definition of antisemitism which has this limb, which it seems to me the attacks in Amsterdam stray into.
"Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the state of Israel.
There are also many centuries of attacks on Jewish people, and so I abhor them whenever they take place.
I say this as someone who has been a staunch critic of the actions of the State of Israel on here (as well as a critic of false accusations of antisemitism) but in my view it is possible to criticise the State of Israel without resorting to antisemitism or attacks on Diaspora Jews or Israeli Jews.

It’s not relevant in the slightest to the OP, which has been hijaked as usual. The violence is abhorrent. People shouldn’t be ‘siding it’ either imo. There was violence from Arabs on Jews and Jews on Arabs, with both instigating. As the mayor of Amsterdam pointed out in her press conference. Neither is acceptable and neither should be used to continue social media attacks on either group.

In general on here, if one poster starts a thread about Israeli violence against Palestinians then within five minutes someone else will reply with a link highlighting Palestinian violence against Israelis. Abd obviously, visa visa - if the actual situation wasn’t so tragic and upsetting, it’ll be pathetic.

It was DJR who brought up the attack on Jews in Amsterdam last night. The op, instead of simply highlighting the story regarding the French Police officers in the thread, decided to bring up the subject idpf antisemitism which is probably why DJR replied about the antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam.

Wow, couple of bizarre downvotes. Would seem some people are quite happy to turn a blind eye to a bit of ethnic cleansing.
Just a quick reminder. Never play sporting events with countries committing ethnic cleansing

I made the comment regarding antisemitism because it is the go to Israeli and Israeli supporter counter to any criticism of Israeli actions. You rather proved my point by first DJR and then yourself doubling down on your perceived antisemitism on a completely different topic. This is the point that I have been trying to make regarding the whole Israel - Palestine conflict. Simply throwing out antisemitism like anti-aircraft fire is not helping the Israeli cause. Of course I am aware of the horrors perpitrated by both sides over the years but surely denying and not facing up what is going on now is not going to end well. What is the end game for Israel here, do they really believe that they can eliminate the 'Palestinian problem' by death and destruction?

Apologies.
I didn't expect what I posted to cause controversy, and it certainly wasn't intended to hijack the thread, defend the State of Israel or deflect from criticism of it.
As it is, I am happy to condemn
(a) the Israeli action you posted about. (b) false allegations of antisemitism, (c) the action of Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in Amsterdam, and (d) what I regard as antisemitic attacks on them.
And I doubled down on the latter because of certain responses to my post and because true antisemitism is something I feel passionately about.
