Crypto 15:15 - Nov 19 with 2947 views | J2BLUE | Anyone got any hot tips? I know it's a casino and my money has a 95%+ chance of going to zero but I would like to gamble on a few random dirt cheap coins with potential. Only a small amount of money so losing it wouldn't be a big deal.

I don't think I will ever understand NFTs. Most of them seem utterly pointless.

Crypto on 15:34 - Nov 19 with 2828 views | belgablue | Most of them are nonsense. I had a few back in the day and in the end just set them all on high sells for when they got pumped (and before they got dumped). It's all converted into Bitcoin now.

Same. I also struggle with crypto/bitcoin and still haven’t figured out what problem it’s trying to solve. (Other than making life easier for money launderers and other scammers).

It's not trying to solve anything in 99.9% of cases, it's usually gambling where the winners are influencers to pump and dump. I've yet to see any of them solve real world issues that couldn't have been done without blockchain being involved.

What research. Theres barely a use case for bitcoin let alone all the rest. Its a pyramid scheme. But one you can make money from. [Post edited 19 Nov 2024 17:15]

I research anything I invest into. Crypto is a small, small percentage of what I have invested. High risk, high reward play. I hold one other which I won't name as it tanked bad. Still a chance it might make a comeback, but it was an investment I made when I didn't really understand what I was doing. [Post edited 19 Nov 2024 18:14]

Crypto on 21:32 - Nov 19 with 2271 views | Sparky85 | I’m in XRP, ADA, PEPE, QUANT, TRX and DOGE Have been a follower of crypto over the years and made a bit of money on Bitcoin. Could be quite an interesting few months with the next bull run starting, plus the Trump and Musk effect. It’s a mad market, but good money can be made.

It's absolutely not away from the tax man and why would you want it to be? Are you against paying tax and helping to fund the country? SB

Any gains are totally within the scope of CGT. Might be a way of using ones diminishing £3k annual allowance though.

It's not a store of wealth given the volatility. A store of wealth is something like gold or high end real estate that has low volatility in times of trouble. Crypto is the opposite, as we saw in '22. The only value I see is that it's a long term bet on emerging markets eventually moving away from the dollar and other centralised currencies.

Him, KSI, Mr Beast, they've all been at it for years. They'll be putting out things saying they're really bullish on something and in the background they are emptying their wallets. It's pump and dumps but because there is so little regulation they have constantly been getting away with it.

Nothing beats the shilling of Musk actually calling the new US department he is going to run DOGE. Department of Government Efficiency. Couldn't make it up. SB

Didnt say I was but if someone had a hefty amount in a secure wallet somewhere not sure how that cannot be passed down hence avoiding capital gains for one example.

I made all these points (money laundering, aiding terrorism, pyramid scheme, unregulated, unclear CG Tax burden/possible prosecution, possibility of losing everything if chain or wallet hacked or corrupted, electricity demand and potential contribution to climate chaos) on here a while ago. I said that I wouldn't invest for all the above reasons, but others would need to decide if they were willing to risk losing everything. It was around the time Bitcoin was $800, and the debate was whether it would hit $1000, if I recall correctly. Yeah, wish I'd bunged a couple of grand at it! I also bought some file hosting years ago from Mega. The options for payment were PayPal or some new fangled thing called a Bitcoin wallet. It was incredibly early days. Had I paid the $14.99 with bitcoin, and kept the 1 cent change in the wallet, it would now be a life changing sum of money. I also once held a kids book in my hands in a bookshop and noticed an error in a list where something was mentioned twice. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Hardback. First Edition. Sigh...
