There can't be a more pedestrian, limp and lifeless midfield pairing than Casemiro and Eriksen. They were everything that Morsy and Cajuste weren't, the gulf there today was huge.

Just about the whole United team lacked any sense of urgency, standing off us and very rigid in the first half and completely ineffective with their possession in the second. I can't remember seeing Rashford after the goal, Garnacho seemed more interested in trying to win fouls than properly beat players, Fernandes was completely absent and only Amad from the outfield players showed any ambition.

Mid-table flatters them. We perhaps ran out of a bit of steam in the end but 3-1 would have probably been a fairer reflection of the game.

The oddest thing is their changes seemed to be to stop us, rather than give them any attacking momentum. Did they have a shot on target in the second half, after the opening minute?

KM was a genius on 20 minutes.

Got davis high to stop amad getting into our half
Pushed morsy and cajuste up to minimise the passing opportunities to those two you've mentioned.

Massive credits to our lads who stuck to their tasks with prem quality.

When you watch back our opening prem games. Our positional play off the ball was all over the shop as expected at this level early on. Which lead to mistakes and costly goals.. but everything about us at the moment is showing very similar signs to a Brighton imo.

a niche perspective

I was surprised how pedestrian they were. I thought they chose to sit off, but maybe I wasn’t giving us enough credit .

I thought they'd bring Mainoo on to bring some impetus to the midfield but chose not to and their shape was all a bit weird after the substitutions.

I was relatively shocked how bad they were. Cajuste looked the most cultured player on the pitch.

Eriksen and Casemiro were anonymous. Amad was class.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Bringing on Zirkzee for Eriksen baffled me. Mainoo or Mount would have made more sense. I wasn't even sure where Zirkzee was supposed to be playing.

Yeah, I think Zirkzee would agree with you.

Like you spotted - he was talking to morsey and Cajuste - instantly wen closed down the midfield but also looks like he said / come on lads - drive through the middle which they both started to do and drawing defenders out giving us space on the wings .

I do think we played them at the right time but we were excellent today. Just love Axel and Delap.

We need a stronger bench

You wouldn't think they were both younger than Sam Morsy

Honestly when I saw the team sheets, their centre midfield Versus Morsy and Casjuste, man I knew we had a good chance. Those two, Erikson and Casimero will be gone from the first team in 8 weeks. I also honestly think Kalvin is no.2 to Casjuste now.

I was confused to see afterwards that Casemiro did actually start. I genuinely don't remember him during the game whatsoever.
