Last season. How good are we. 20:20 - Nov 26 with 2253 views | FrimleyBlue | Can't remember the poster. It might have been churchman, maybe davblue or even keno. But someone made a post about supporters not knowing how good we actually were. It got me thinking especially after seeing someone's post earlier about 7 results out of 10 since the man city game.. So the question is how good are we?

I think the best is till to come too. We were Championship ready last season and were at it from the off. This season, a lot of changes, slight culture shock with the much higher level but we really are getting there. We have to make this next set of matches count though.

Last season. How good are we. on 20:49 - Nov 26 with 2060 views | LegendofthePhoenix | In my mind, we drew at Brentford, and beat Leicester. So that's 2 wins and 2 draws in our last 4. I genuinely have zero worries about surviving, I just think its a question of how high up the table we can get. It's taken time for all the new players to get the McKennaball playing style embedded and for the telepathy that we saw over the last 2 seasons working with all the new guys. Even with the legacy players (Burns/Burgess etc.) the telepathy gives us a superpower (Burgess ball for Davis in the goal build up on Sunday). But now we have players with a higher ceiling skill level who are learning to play McKennaball, and we are seeing it start to click. Barring serious injuries, mid-table beckons.

Last season. How good are we. on 20:55 - Nov 26 with 2020 views | Churchman | Can’t remember who said it but I certainly believed that last season from pretty early on. The club feels and has felt like a runaway horse (no, never been near one! Scary animals) with us supporters trying to keep up. I think it’s because we’ve endured such a long period of decline since 2002, the absolute pits being the Evans period where the only news seemed to be bad, bar the play off season. Even that was marred by us being low on quality in the final analysis. I looked at the plans for Playford Rd today. I expected something a bit slapped up, despite what’s been printed and talked about. Why? Because all there’s been in years is a coat of paint for a portacabin. There is ambition here that I struggle to get my head around. When I looked at the ground on Sunday I felt pride in the club. It’s got an identity again - something I remember it having by the boatload back in the good ole days. These really feel like they are the days. But how good are we? Better than our league position and in the fight. The football club is growing.

I don't recall anyone saying that. Definitely not myself either. There was a thread about top of the championship and if we would automatically be top of it or something but that was around Sept I think. Not sure.

There were definitely people saying we wouldn't even be in the play offs!
Last season. How good are we. on 08:46 - Nov 27 with 1326 views | Stewart27 | In my opinion it’s clear to see how much we’ve improved on last season. The standard is so much higher than the championship. I see players like Hutchinson adapting to life in this league and doing what he did last season at a higher level. See also Morsy and Davis. We’ve added quality to the squad which we are now starting to see now that KM has had time with them. We’re seeing a sharpness to our play in a league that is unforgiving and doesn’t allow for error. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think the fact we'll now have a decent run of games with no international breaks will also do the club a lot of good and they can get proper time training together as a unit. in those break periods we haven't had a chance for the squad to spend time together. It's clear that McKenna is working his magic and I remain confident that we will make further progress.

You can clearly see we're improving. Under McKenna, new signings have always taken time to get up to speed, but then had big impacts second half of the season. I think we'll see that again. I'm expecting big second halfs to the season from the likes of Jack Clarke, Jens Cajuste, Dara O'Shea, etc...

Last season. How good are we. on 10:21 - Nov 27 with 1122 views | Esseeja | People forget that we only played with one main striker for the majority of last season, and in the period where we had 1 win in 10 games, we didn't have an actual striker in our squad until that 9th game when Moore and Al-Hamadi came on as a sub. That's how good we were last season. If we had Moore from the start, we would have honestly gone on to win the league and break Reading's 106 points record... easily. [Post edited 27 Nov 2024 10:23]

I will quite openly say I was hoping for top 10 last season. Suppose I was technically right...

O'Shea and Cajuste have been superb in recent games. I've been extremely disappointed with Jack Clarke so far. He really has to improve in the second half of the season.

I'm not convinced he's the player for our system. Absolutely brilliant player, but not necessarily for us, with Leif doing the thing from wider positions. Still think Broady has a role in this side.

Sorry, there was a thread a few weeks ago were people were saying that our current side wouldn't be anywhere near the top of the champ this season. I was referencing that rather than commenting on last year's squad To be fair, last season I was one of the more pessimistic fans and was just hoping to stay up!

Oh yeah, I agree on O'Shea and Cajuste. They've been brilliant. But it's only the last three or four games we've really started to see it. And, they will get better still, I'm convinced of it. Both look like top international quality players.
