Has anyone got Sky Broadband? 16:00 - Dec 2 with 3125 views | itfcjoe | If so, and they offer you a chance to move to Sky Max Broadband just do not do it, wait as long as you can. We've recently had to do it, and it's been an absolute s**tshow, I'll go through a couple of bits here, just so people know the issue (which Sky are aware of but won't tell you) New router sent, install it, and then Sky Q just basically doesn't work, none of the boxes talk to each other, have to have a Sky Q engineer out. They basically say it is because the new Router's aren't 'Sky' so they don't talk to Q boxes in the same language, and the solution is for me to have my old router plugged directly into this new Max router so that it sends a Sky signal around my house for them to pick up. We then get a Broadband engineer out, who confirms that this is acceptable, and adds boosters to the system, but now we end up with deadspots as it moves between boosters (the Sky Q box no longer acts as a booster like it used to). This is apparently all fine, and just user choice now to as what we want to do with it as the engineer has broadband throughout the house and has done his job. Which means that where previously we just had a router in the office, and everything throughout whole house worked fine, with a cable run down to my garden room for another box we now have a new router, with the old router plugged directly into it, 5 boosters and a further (old) router down in the garden room. SO we now need 8 items to do a worse job than 1 was doing, of course we can't go back to the old router now. So, does anyone have any broadband recommendations?! I always stuck with Sky because it worked so well with the Q boxes and the whole set up - so may as well shop around now!

Has anyone got Sky Broadband? on 16:14 - Dec 2 with 3000 views | GlasgowBlue | I have Sky Broadband and had to buy an extra router because our main bedroom is a dead spot, but that hasn't made it any better. I can only work sonos by voice control in the bedroom and bathroom as the app doesn't function in those rooms. Will take your advice and steer clear of Sky Max.

I moved to Sky last year and got a booster for the garage - took awhile before I realised my laptop was trying to connect to the main router in the house from the garage, and not the booster, resulting in constant drop-outs. Might be a case of getting the Sonus to “forget” the WiFi connection and then re-add when in the room with the extra router. Check the Sky app to see where the Sonus is connecting. Once I did that, the laptop connected to the booster and my connection remained stable.
Has anyone got Sky Broadband? on 16:39 - Dec 2 with 2910 views | Zx1988 | We have Plusnet for our internet, which is essentially budget-brand BT - same router etc., and all part of BT. It's been faultless for the year-and-a-bit we've had it; good coverage throughout the house, no downtime, and the speeds are good as well - we're currently paying £34.99 a month for their Full Fibre 500 package, which is more than enough for our modest needs.

Good shout this. Got a Peloton in the garage and super duper fibre throughout the house which struggles to reach the garage unfortunately, so a booster in place BUT the peloton always wanted to connect to the house network and not the booster. Had to forget the house network on the peloton and it's all good now.

Has anyone got Sky Broadband? on 16:44 - Dec 2 with 2868 views | blueasfook | I dont know what I have. I dont think it's Sky Max, but i got a new router last year. Its a big chunky one. All seems to work fine. My Sky broadband kept doing something weird where the connection dropped at 10pm every night. But since I got a new router, it seems to be OK.

Ah - as a Sonos user myself, all speakers have to be on the same network, so this wouldn't work here.

Has anyone got Sky Broadband? on 17:36 - Dec 2 with 2687 views | BlueForYou | I have an issue which no one can solve. Originally had BT full fibre Halo 500mb broadband. It was very good but out of contract. Decided to change to Sky full fibre 900mb.as it saved me £10 a month & should be better & faster. However, with BT I had full coverage throughout the house, whereas with Sky there is now a dead spot in the bedroom which means the service keeps cutting out. This is quite annoying as I try to do all working from upstairs for peace& quiet. Sky say there is nothing wrong as I have strong service entering the house. It’s weird how a 500mb service can be “weaker” than 900mb?? Wish I had stayed with the BT one now as I’m stuck with an inferior product. It won't be down to the internet itself, it will be down to the router which is bundled with the package. Assuming you were using BT's bundled router, and are now using Sky's, it could be that the Sky one is a weaker/cheaper bit of kit. You may be better off investing in a decent third-party router, which you can keep and continue using with whichever broadband provider you're using at any particular point in time.

Any recommendations? I haven’t got a clue with this stuff, presume I’ll need to find an expert to set it up? I just buyni5 & use it.

Has anyone got Sky Broadband? on 18:48 - Dec 2 with 2488 views | JimmyJazz | I had the exact same experience with the Sky Max Wi-Fi router, then about 6 months later there was an offer to upgrade to Sky Full Fibre 100, which required an engineer to come over and install a new Open Reach connector, rather than using the original Open Reach phone line. I don't really know why I agreed to upgrade again as the new router upgrade was so poor. But I did upgrade and that works and fixed all the problems. The engineer doing the installation was laughing saying how Sky had sold the router expecting it to work on the original dial-up phone line. The engineers (I had another come before to look into the Max Wi-Fi issues) seem unimpressed with what's happening with Sky recently, saying they started the router rollout far too early. But before that, exactly as you say, Sky Q was hopeless. Think it was a bit of a scam to be honest as i've had 2 upgrades just to get back to a reliable service Edit - The weird thing was the router comes with a booster, which I plugged in and it never had any lights on. The engineer said 'yes, that's what it does', to which I said 'what, just sit there looking like it's doing nothing?' Now with Sky Full Fibre, the booster is always lit. So what was that rubbish the engineer told me? [Post edited 2 Dec 2024 18:51]

Is the booster one of their pods? As if the light is lit on the pod, then it’s either not got or is struggling for a connection. No light weirdly means it has a connection.

Nothing to do with the speed but the quality of router and I was on Halo 500 with BT and the router was quality, full signal everywhere in the house. Now on 900mb and with a not quite so powerful EE router as BT now merged with them. Am waiting for a better BT router to be delivered as I kicked off about it not being quite so superb. Yes it is one of their pods, so what you're saying backs up what the engineer originally said Although they did say the booster wasn't necessarily needed, I do have a better connection than before

That is what I had, and was really good, but we got pushed onto this Max at end of contract and it's rubbish - had a similar set up to you with Multiroom dotted through the house. The Sky broadband engineer seemed to think it was mad that we had 3 extra Sky Q boxes

Yep can't fault Virgin but it's pricy unless you lock into an 18 month contact, which took my package from £140 PM to £109.
