Not just the players who are finding the Premier League above their level. 16:17 - Dec 8 with 3689 views | NeedhamChris | There are enough places on the bench to accommodate either Greaves or Woolfenden to go 5 at the back. Poor subs that didn't offer us anything. A slightly less poor man's Russell Martin on this season alone. Edit: to be clear, more than enough credit in the bank. But how much worse off by now do people think we'd be had he gone to Brighton? [Post edited 8 Dec 2024 16:19]

Not just the players who are finding the Premier League above their level. on 17:05 - Dec 8 by NeedhamChris | Van Nistelrooy The Brighton manager Moyes Southgate Potter Ljinders Rodgers Marsch And many many more. I'd still choose McKenna, but your insistence that he's outperforming what any one could possibly be achieving here is nonsense. |
So to clarify, you have asserted that there are lots of managers who could do better than McKenna but one has only a handful of games as manager at PL and got smashed in midweek and then you don't even know the name of your second suggestion. Drop the caveats as well, you can't make suggestions like you have and then go "credit in the bank" or whatever. If you truly believe what you are posting then you should stand fully behind it. Not just the players who are finding the Premier League above their level. on 17:06 - Dec 8 by MK1 | With a L1 squad who total over performed the season before. This squad is in a massive transition stage and a very, very quick learning curve. Nobody can say whether a different manager could have done better or worse, so it is a pointless argument from the both of you. The only name put forward by someone else was Graham Potter, which was laughable to be honest. It isn't just the players who are learning at this level. McKenna will make mistakes, of course he will, but we hope that he learns from them. To bomb him out at this stage would be a massive mistake in my opinion. |
I agree with your last sentence for what it's worth. I think there are some like Moyes who we'd have more points with - I think that's fair. I would still choose McKenna.

The logic in your first paragraph would have ruled out McKenna when we sacked Paul Cook. Your second paragraph shows you have no concept of nuance. Do you think he's performing better than anyone else would?

I love the Championship, so no tears from me either, should the worse happen.

Not just the players who are finding the Premier League above their level. on 17:16 - Dec 8 with 715 views | chicoazul | We started with five players who were with us in League One, one of whom couldn’t get a regular game. We didn’t get the chance to churn the squad and bring in Championship quality/experience due to the b2b promotions. Sorry but you’re asking for trouble if your change option off the bench at 9 is AAH. I don’t really see there was or is much else we could or should have done though. Maybe the only signing who really looks like a bum is Muric and even he has been intermittently excellent. I think we will do much better in the Prem next time around which shouldn’t be long. Lessons learned.

Some very big names on there. Think we can rule out Van Nistelrooy, Moyes, Southgate, Potter, Ljinders and Rodgers as pie in the sky type appointments. If Marsch had come in the summer, we would be below Southampton. The new Brighton manager (Hurzeler) is a shout though. The only trouble is, he is doing very well with an experienced PL squad. Would he had done better than McKenna with a totally untried PL squad? Debatable.

I think you're underselling our attractiveness (and the pull of £5m a year). Agree on Potter tho in hindsight. I think we could have convinced Moyes. Very glad we haven't - but wouldn't say he's pie in the sky. I miss the Championship - and I wouldn't choose any of those over McKenna for next season. However if our finances were different and this season was s*** or bust - I think others could make edge a few more points out of it.

To go 5 at the back and invite further pressure would have been the worst thing to do. Shoring up midfield however would have helped | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Guess we will never know. I am not saying McKenna has got it all right and I would question some of our recruitments in the summer, but we are where we are. I am glad McKenna stayed and I hope he can still pull this around. Just as a side note, we wouldn't have paid any other manager £5M a season. It is a one off for McKenna. Nice to have a grown up conversation on here. Thanks.

Not just the players who are finding the Premier League above their level. on 16:46 - Dec 8 by NeedhamChris | I'm not saying he should be replaced. I'm just saying he is finding the PL above his level so far. Do you think he's having a successful season? |
It’s fine margins, we are playing some cracking football At times, but silly mistakes costing us, also unlucky with injuries which has made it difficult to keep A Settled Team. I’d say the whole Team and coaching staff have done a fantastic job. We just need to get behind the team, and boss, what will be will be. [Post edited 8 Dec 2024 18:06]

Good grief. Manager Bingo! Quite a diverse selection there, including ones only just appointed. Good luck in getting most of those.
