Chaplin 21:10 - Dec 16 with 3974 views | The_Romford_Blue | We’re just such a better team creativity wise when he plays. Think some of our issues earlier this year came as a result of nobody linking up between Morsy/Phillips and the attackers. Whereas now Cajuste is willing to drive forward with it and Chaplin sits in that pocket of space between the midfield and Delap. Think we’re just a far more creative side with Chaplin showing he’s been able to step up to the level required (a bit like Burgess) whereas in pre season I was unsure if they’d be able to.

Chaplin on 22:05 - Dec 16 with 3770 views | DavoIPB | Tend to disagree. He did one really good ball yesterday. The rest of the time wasn't except of course the shot on goal. He is really slow gets bypassed and I'm not sure I've seen him win the ball back yet.
Chaplin on 05:24 - Dec 17 with 3446 views | ibbleobble | Agreed. He’s a smart footballer who always finds the pocket of space necessary whether in the box or out of it. He went off the boil for about 10 games + last season but he’s back and looking very sharp. Could have had at least another couple of goals to his tally if it wasn’t for Delap taking it off his toes at Forest and the goal line block at Wolves. He’s in my bet builder most weeks at the moment.

He does have some pros and cons (who doesn't?) but he's actually made some pretty tenacious tackles in the last couple of games. What he does bring is excellent intelligence and awareness, movement and the sort of potentially game-changing, defence unlocking passes such as we saw at the weekend. I think he's perfect for certain games, and not so for others, but always a bench option at worst. He's a specialist, really.

Chaplin on 08:34 - Dec 17 with 3135 views | The_Flashing_Smile | Yeah he's a great reader of the game, and as others have mentioned we seem to do better when we have more of the old guard in the team - not because they're more skilful players but they just have such great awareness of where each other will be. Chappers is the epitome of that, with Leif on one side and Burns on the other. Once we have the higher quality players getting that higher quality understanding, then we ought to be able to survive in this league.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Chaplin on 09:13 - Dec 17 with 3012 views | GreenEye | I agree with that. He whips those quick balls to the wing from the middle which were the staple last year. On Saturday he was talking with Wes near us during a break in play telling him what to look for. I think he makes Omari better and looks like the beating heart of the team. Someone on here posted a great piece about pre-season training before last season. He had a coffee shop near where the lads were training. They would come in after and he wrote about how tight knit they all were and how Chappers was such a big character within the group. These are heady times. We have a great club with a great team of people in every department. I'm enjoying the ride

Watch again. You'll see he did much more.
Chaplin on 09:26 - Dec 17 with 2942 views | flykickingbybgunn | Chappers has made that space around the D all his own. Well timed runs in. As dangerous as you like. Showed again on Saturday and last week.
Chaplin on 09:35 - Dec 17 with 2896 views | boccy23 | Agree re his ball to Burns, but for me he has to tighten up his game in the Prem. He gives it away too cheaply when we have to fight to get the ball back every time. He gave a poor pass which got O'Shea into trouble for their big chance in the first half. O'Shea had nowhere to go with the ball, the pass was to Leif on the left. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Chaplin on 17:59 - Dec 17 with 2427 views | MK1 | Yeah, been brilliant last few games. I suggested he might be sold in January, but I have also said many times, I know nothing. Long may he stay.

Chaplin on 18:18 - Dec 17 with 2387 views | Rimsy | I agree. He's just so zoned in on the way KMc wants to play, helps his teammates up their game. Also doesn't look out of place in the Prem.

Chaplin on 18:36 - Dec 17 with 2325 views | FrimleyBlue | It's an interesting potion the chappers one. Chappers seems to manager what hutchinson couldn't in that role yet hutchinson managed to do what chappers can't.. If we were to stay in the prem.. the next step is for someone who can do the role combining both attributes. Which isn't easy to attract in 1 window..

Chaplin on 19:40 - Dec 17 with 2145 views | hunty21 | Agree I His weapon is his movement and ability to find space to shoot and his accuracy is the best at the club he really should have started the season and integrated the others more first
Chaplin on 20:13 - Dec 17 with 2065 views | bournemouthblue | We haven't really seen Szmodics in there but Chaplin is our best number 10 really, he understands the role far better than Hutchinson and gets a lot more out of Burns particularly He hits those earlier passes, is generally positive and keeps the game flowing Hutch for all his talent is guilty of holding onto it for too long, which is less of a problem on the wing [Post edited 17 Dec 2024 20:15]

Chaplin on 07:51 - Dec 18 with 1599 views | gosblue | At the start of the season, it was obvious that Chappers was making the same movements around the box but the new boys hadn't read the script. He seemed to suffer a dip in confidence. Now, he appears to be back to his chirpy self. His role however has changed dramatically as he has become more of a box-to-box player. Those suggesting a lack of contribution should look again and see the work he gets through in and around our own box. Axel's absence has a much bigger impact than you would imagine.
Chaplin on 08:42 - Dec 18 with 1506 views | Len_Brennan | We shouldn't underestimate the impact of Hirst being injured, both this time last year & twice already this season, has had on Chaplin's effective for us. Those two seemed to almost instantaneously hit it off when Hirst joined in League 1 & knew what the other was doing to do, or what ball was wanted to be played. A good 'in tune' partnership is worth a lot, and despite Delap's great start for us & goals return, he doesn't link with those behind him quite as well as Hirst does, especially with Chappers. They make each other better players.

Delap for all the good things he does, doesn't pin sides back in the same way Hirst does, which created space for the likes of Chappers and Burns particularly Earlier in the season I was advocating Hirst starting and having Delap on either the left or right wing Delap like Hutch, can be guilty of holding onto it a bit too long also, which might be the way they are taught at these top clubs. There's some situations where it's handy and others where it definitely isn't, they're both young, they'll learn eventually

Definitely, his defensive shift against Bournemouth in particular was incredible.
Chaplin on 09:54 - Dec 18 with 1292 views | Swailsey | Agreed. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since we’ve had the spine of Burgess, Morsy and Chaplin back from the last 2 years we’ve looked really solid. They just understand each other and give us so much cohesion.
