A friendly reminder for the Geordie’s on Saturday… 13:00 - Dec 18 with 5719 views | Matt_Netherlands | For when the great man’s name inevitably gets sung, I think we need to remind those northerners that we never sacked him. Looking forward to Saturday, always makes it a special game. (Aside from when they pumped us live on the tele)

I’ve heard of ‘bedsheet Rich’ and guessed it was for something like this but don’t remember said sheet or bs Rich in connection with a Jim out protest. We are not talking about the idiot on Radio Suffolk phone ins are we that used to drive us spare? Forgive me - it’s my age.
A friendly reminder for the Geordie’s on Saturday… on 21:24 - Dec 18 with 812 views | patrickswell | Is nobody going to bring up the fact that the Ipswich crowd chanted for Robson to go after we lost to Manchester United in the League Cup in September 1971. This was after a bottom 5 finish in 1969/70 and a bottom 4 finish in 1970/71, and we started 1971/72 without scoring a goal in 6 of our first 7 games. John Cobbold chose not to listen to the fans and reaped the rewards, but who’s to say that those who were chanting back in 1971 were wrong to do so based on what they had seen for 2 and a bit years. The only difference between 1971 and 2004 was the number of phone-in programmes, which amplify discontent. I think there are many people at Newcastle with cause to hang their head in shame about how Robson was treated, but I don’t think the majority of their fanbase were to blame for it.

Fair point. The crowd might have been against Robson at that time, but the Board were not. I seem to remember Jc offered him an apology and better contract. Robson had sorted the players hostile to him by then. The Board also sanctioned the buying of Allan Hunter. One of the most pivotal moments and signings in the club’s history. What a player, what a bloke. Shepherd and Newcastle’s Board just booted Robson out. After those top five PL finishes and after BR had dug them out of a hole when he joined in about 98. I wasn’t going to many games at that point and although I do remember that time, I don’t remember much about how we played. Bit dour but that may be my bad recollections - just the signings and the struggle until 1972/3
A friendly reminder for the Geordie’s on Saturday… on 07:41 - Dec 19 with 653 views | GlasgowBlue | Not a fan of it. It’s hurtful to Sir Bobby’s memory to sing about him losing the job he absolutely loved. Plus the bloke who sacked him is long gone and the fans didn’t support the decision.

A friendly reminder for the Geordie’s on Saturday… on 19:25 - Dec 18 by DarkHorse | The "we never sacked Bobby Robson" chant is pathetic. Completely classless. Not what The Great Man would have wanted, and I hope to never hear it again. |
Fat finger downvote. Meant to upvote.

A friendly reminder for the Geordie’s on Saturday… on 19:45 - Dec 18 by Churchman | I don’t remember seeing a ‘Magilton out’ banner or him being abused or spat on (it happened to Robson by Newcastle supporters when he was managing England and binned Keegan). And I saw most of Jim’s home games as a ST holder. I do remember our last derby win and that he did ok with limited resources. |

Clearly never been to a game against Newcastle…. No need for banner. We leave polite leaflet on each of their sets. There’s an alternative version to the “there’s only one Bobby Robson” chant which says “we never sacked Bobby Robson” - cone out a few times over the years.
