Southampton didn’t want to pay the compensation for Rhol or Corberan 08:50 - Dec 20 with 2363 views | SitfcB | So going for an unknown in English football. This and the new Wolves manager seem good appointments for us IMO.

Southampton didn’t want to pay the compensation for Rhol or Corberan on 09:06 - Dec 20 with 2141 views | CaptainAhab | Probably makes sense, whoever they go for they're going to get relegated and he'll be sacked anyway, so best not to spend too much money hey
Southampton didn’t want to pay the compensation for Rhol or Corberan on 09:12 - Dec 20 with 2051 views | HampBlue | He's in to be thrown under the bus for the rest of the season, sacked when they get relegated and then they'll go for Rohl/ Corberan when they're a far more attractive proposition. Is that because of how the financial rules work? I'm sure I saw something recently where a club can spread the cost of a player fee across the length of their contract within Financial rules but compensation to another club for a manager has to be included as a one off payment in that financial year

I cant imagine the pay off figure would be so high that it would outweigh the risk of relegation?

I doubt the payoff is significant compared to player costs and relegation. I believe his salary to be around £2M per annum, with a contract due to run to 2027. They will not have paid the full amount of outstanding contract, more like 50%-70%, so based on 70% of 2.5 years, will be around £3.5M at a guess.
