Southampton didn’t want to pay the compensation for Rhol or Corberan 08:50 - Dec 20 with 2363 viewsSitfcB

So going for an unknown in English football.

This and the new Wolves manager seem good appointments for us IMO.

Never fails to amaze me that clubs won't spend £5-£10m on a decent manager, but will happily pay £30m+ for average players.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

He left Roma already didn't he?

I'd be annoyed if we appointed either manager, both don't stay at clubs long.

Probably makes sense, whoever they go for they're going to get relegated and he'll be sacked anyway, so best not to spend too much money hey

He's in to be thrown under the bus for the rest of the season, sacked when they get relegated and then they'll go for Rohl/ Corberan when they're a far more attractive proposition.

Martin had a massive payoff, they didn't want to get rid of him because of it but were left with no choice.

....and again, the parallels with Lambert keep on coming.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Is that because of how the financial rules work?
I'm sure I saw something recently where a club can spread the cost of a player fee across the length of their contract within Financial rules but compensation to another club for a manager has to be included as a one off payment in that financial year

I cant imagine the pay off figure would be so high that it would outweigh the risk of relegation?

Rohl would have been a lamb to the slaughter there this season. I've got him on my own personal shortlist to replace KMc when that sad moment comes.

I doubt the payoff is significant compared to player costs and relegation. I believe his salary to be around £2M per annum, with a contract due to run to 2027.

They will not have paid the full amount of outstanding contract, more like 50%-70%, so based on 70% of 2.5 years, will be around £3.5M at a guess.
