The Cunha incident 16:29 - Dec 22 with 5779 viewsZx1988

As mentioned on Kings of Anglia, if you do that on any street, it's assault.

Similarly, with it having happened after the final whistle, and between a player and a staff member, there's not a hope in hell that the 'sporting contact/incident' defence would stand up in court.

Is there any particular reason why (it would appear) a complaint hasn't been made to the police? The police got involved between Joey Barton and the Barnsley manager the other year, so it's possible.

Is it just a case that it's not considered the done thing?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I don't understand how he plays when he had till 19th December to respond to charges, yet there's been no hearing (and it's 22nd now).
Meanwhile Delap...

Because delap was a yellow and an automatic suspension.

There was hardly any force.

The 'victim' clearly agrees with me.

We don't have to exaggerate the incident.

I don’t feel particularly strongly either way about reporting it to the police but from some of the comments on here, I think some people have not seen the initial elbow to the back of the guys head. Cunha crooks his arm and ever so slightly jumps to give the blow extra force. It’s definitely assault territory, no doubt about it. It’s worse than an elbow ‘in game’ as there can be no reasonable excuse.
To call it handbags is very much underplaying it.

Happy to agree to differ.

Indeed. Also not sure why the PL is being criticised for the FA's disciplinary process (as per the other leagues).

I wouldn't call it violent. Unpleasant but not violent.

Not violent?
What's the definition of physical violence? This incident is both unpleasant and violent!

Violence is an act that is intended to hurt somebody

He didn't intend to hurt him by taking his glasses off.

The elbow... at first sighting I thought it was awful and a purposeful blow with the elbow. On 2nd viewing I can't quite work out if purposefully elbowing him or opening his arms and catching him accidently. That I guess is fornthe fa to decide after his explanation.

I’m not advocating a report is made to the police but you’ve clearly not seen the whole incident.
There is a nasty, very deliberate elbow to the back of the guys head prior to the glasses being grabbed.

He grabbed at his face. The glasses were collateral damage.

Anyhow, i would not be surprised to see Cunha get away with it. It’s how ludicrous the Premier League is. Ironically, had the ITFC official hit him, as I think he was entitled to do, he’d have lost his job.

It was deliberate. He sizes the bloke up from behind, then hits him with the elbow. When the security man turns around, Cunha holds his arms wide as if to indicate that he was jostled, and then tries to use the fact he’s being confronted as justification for grabbing the man’s glasses. And he keeps shouting him afterwards.

Anything that can be done to affect Cunha and Wolves would be justified by us I think, because the whole melee screams of the fact that Cunha and Ait-Nouri could not accept the fact that they had been beaten by us. They didn’t have any respect for us - Ait-Nouri clearly felt that Burns didn’t belong on the same pitch as him, and Cunha’s behaviour was a complete power play, “I’m a Premier League footballer, what are you Mr. Security Man?”

Compare Wolves’s behaviour with ours the previous weekend against Bournemouth. We suffered a loss that was even more agonising than the one we inflicted on Wolves, but you didn’t see our players taking out their frustrations on Bournemouth’s back room team or Morsy trying to get at Kluivert after the final whistle to get retribution for the slap he received at the start of the game.
And why? Because we have a squad packed with people with good character, and Wolves have spoilt scumbags representing them.

He elbows him in the back of the head before grabbing his glasses!

There's clearly character issues at Wolves, I didn't envy O'Neil on that one

Totally agree. If there's any real justice then Wolves will go down off the back of their indiscipline

It really wouldn't surprise me if Cunha escapes punishment but police look further into whether Liam Delap said some hurty words or not.
