Points Total for Survival 13:45 - Jan 17 with 1751 viewsLA_Tractor_Boy

Since the PL was reduced to 20 teams, the fewest points needed for survival was 34 in 2004/05 (ignoring Forest's points deduction last season)

None of the bottom 5 teams are on course to exceed that total.

Could we stay up on 30 points this season, or is that wishful thinking?

I doubt it. I still think 35 at least.

Probably about 3 or 4 more than we’ll end up with.

Very split opinions on where we’ll end up.

James Scowcroft on TWTV thought 42-45 which is bullish. If we’d won last night we’d be a lot more positive.

As to the point about what’s required - I’d go with Gainsborough on 35 to be safe -
Over half that poll thought we could make that.

Will go to the wire.

Yeah, 35 ish I reckon. Teams at the bottom seem to hit unexpected spells of decent form as the season gets to the crunch.

That probably won't apply to Southampton though.

We need to start beating the teams around us.

I know Palace have pulled away now, but when we played them they were around us.

We've only beaten Wolves, drew with Southampton and Leicester and lost to Palace and Everton.

Yes wins against Chelsea/Spurs are great and we do need those results too, but we need to definitely get results from those teams around us.

Wishful thinking I think. I reckon Southampton are gone. 2 from Leicester, Wolves and ourselves. I personally think Leicester will go down, so between us and Wolves. Their squad has an absolute bucket load of PL experience which will serve them well, but their manager has none. I am not convinced he will be able to get up to speed with the PL in time to keep them up. That is my hope anyway. Their squad is better than ours, but their manager definitely isn't. It's going to be tight and tough, but I hope Kieran McKenna will be the difference. I know KM hasn't managed in the PL before this season, but he has been around it for many years. I see it going down to the last game and us needing something from the WHU game.

We need to put a run together. We haven't done that all season. 2 or three wins on the spin or 5 unbeaten. Because, sadly, I think the two established Premier League teams we are fighting with to survive are capable of doing so.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
